You have to hit everything prior to that as well (granted you can restart from the last checkpoint upon mistake) - so missing only the last one should be a rarity.

Besides that this kind of requirement is a somewhat good prepraration for the boss battles as you have to hit the last thump of a sequence there as well to progress. Cannot miss out on the critical hit.

I'm pretty sure that you need to S every chapter to get a S on a level. If you get one A, you'll get a A.
So yeah, you have to restart the level if you miss one finish thump.

Hey (1) you actually CAN get a S if you miss a thump, but it's hard. You can make up for a miss by getting enough perfect turns and/or some "bonus" thumps that are activated by pounding while you're in the streak state. Similarly, missing the red slide bars and the blue jump rings will hurt your rank, but you can make up for missing them.

(2) we're currently considering the best way to add a "quick restart" feature.

If you miss the thump that defines the checkpoint, you can't even restart from last checkpoint to save the run.

The only solution is to restart the whole level. I hope this is adressed aswell, alongside the quick restart button. It's sad to waste 15 minutes because of a single note.

One way to deal with this would be to include a sudden death modifier (that could be unlocked after beating the campaign). The way it'd work could be: if you miss a thump you die and the level restarts.

We updated the game back in November to address this specific issue. On the Restart From Checkpoint screen, you can now select "Previous" to jump back to the previous stage if you miss the final thump and blow your S Rnak.

the previous option shows up as long as i am inside the game
but if i go back to menus then try to load my run again it wont let me play from the previous stage as in my imgur link it will force me to play 5-9 while i have 5-8 on A

and there is no previous option only restart on current 5-9

overall you should just be able to play any specific stage within a level as you wish

what if i want to show someone a specific part in a stage or i just like playing that beat

what if i just want to go back to level 4 and play the final boss stage and thats all

btw heres a new gameplay type
boss only mode once you complete the game you can play all final boss one after the other
in a chain

you beat final boss 1 and final boss 2 instantly loads while on the track
should be a pretty epic ride


but please make it possible to play a specific stage my OCD is showing up having an A in the middle of all those S ranks

It's unlikely we'll add the specific feature you're suggesting (being able to replay a specific section and have it "upgrade" your rank on that section). Part of the challenge of S Ranking a level is you have to do it within one play session. We decided on the current system based on player feedback and our own design goals. Nobody said it would be easy ;)

We *might* add some kind of "practice" feature that lets you play specific sections in a level. Others have suggested similar things and we're considering it. If we do, it likely will be just a practice mode and the scores/ranks you get won't count towards achievements or leaderboards.

This feature is great and has one (big) caveat, but only one: I was used to the 'restart from previous' feature and I was going through the game practicing up a score I was happy with and moving on. So, I had spent about 8 hours crawling through level 8 and then my game got closed after I had beaten a chapter once with a C. Upon re-opening, the 'restart from previous' is gone and I am locked into beginning after the point. Nobody wants to lose 8 hours of progress because of a feature that is inconsistent, and depends on whether you've had the game open or not. Please make this consistent so that it doesn't treat players unfairly, building an expectation that isn't honored or having an exception to the rule that isn't made specific.

It is not the 'play any stage' feature that I am requesting, it is consistency within the feature you added; that the game really shouldn't lock you into your run in a different way because the window got closed.

Were this made explicit, I simply would have taken a different approach that honored the construction of the game, but as it was, the game built an expectation for me that led to a betrayal of my enjoyment of the game, in fact I had a friendly competition going with this specific set of rules in mind, and that's gone out the window now too.

As yet I have not been able to figure out how to manually force a restart from the previous chapter. It's frustrating because I even remember my score, and would round down to the nearest thousand just to have my work back; I was proud of my scores.
