Visual over stimulation hurts gameplay
I enjoyed the game and its visuals up until about level 6, where it's starting to get really fast and out of rythm. I find it difficult to even see the prompt let alone know when to push a button because everything is flashing around the player character, making it easy to miss something when it's going really fast. Along with that, if you do get damaged or hurt, the whole screen shakes and it throws you out of the game so hard that it might as well be a one hit kill, since it's usually impossible to recover.

(Also boss 6 is really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The button prompts are placed out of rythm, I could swear they are, and I'm not sure if I suck so bad or if sometimes my button press is actually not registered - but sometimes I manage to register a hit even if I'm visibly too late).

You don't suck. Games like this as they progress get very difficult. I showed my partner this game the other day and she loved the visuals and weird asthetic....but she isn't a huge gamer and got frustrated fairly early on.

I take breaks. I have only done up to the level 3 boss, I think.

With so many games to play, this is a little weird thing to try once in a while.

The rhythms in this game don't always fall on the beat, but in my opinion they're always in a discernible rhythm. I've beaten all of play + and even managed a few s+ ranks. There are a few strange rhythms, but none that I can think of that are arrhythmic.

In regards to visual overstimulation, I think learning to deal with that is part of the games fun and challenge. Taking excessive amounts of information, and picking out only the useful parts. The game demands a lot of persistence, don't give up!
