Online Only?
Yes, this question has been asked before, but I have yet to find threads with definite answers, and very few from after the game released, just before, meaning speculation only.

Anyway, am I able to play this game completely disconnected from internet, singleplayer only, etc. forever, whenever I want? I see that Denuvo is on this game, so I'd like to know if that means online verification required (meaning online required), or if it doesn't do anything like that. I don't like games I own to be unable to be played a few years down the line, or games I'm unable to play when my internet happens to be out.

I just tried starting the game in offline mode and it wouldn't start. Seems you gotta be online for it to run. As I said in the other thread, you can disable the online features by not accepting the EULA. However I believe you need to be connected to the internet for it to run.

Damn, and I was looking forward to the game once the microtransactions were removed, since it seemed I could play offline. Obviously if it won't lauch without internet connection that's not the case. Guess I'll pass on the game then. Shame.

You can play offline (I just successfully did it to make sure no stealth patch removed it).
I can attempt to take a snapshot of steam in offline mode with it running if you so desire proof
The only time you are required for online is for the very first time as one of their (bad) attempts to stop piracy

Really? I played this game many times before. It brought up a window saying to restart in online mode. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

So some conflicting information from people here. Going to wait for more replies to confirm it better.

You're sure that you were completely disconnected? As in, your computer was disconnected from the internet, not just Steam in offline mode?

Yes, physically disconnected from the net. After reading Titanopteryx' post though, there may be something that I need to be online for at some point in game play. I'll play awhile tonight or tomorrow offline and see.

I've had a couple games do that to me, even on some older games (Prototype 2's my most recent memory of this happening).
I think its just basic Steam/Steamworks DRM. Like if trying to run it on a new computer/laptop or a password change, maybe even you havent touched Steam in ages etc.

Ok, I started it in online mode, then went offline and started in offline mode. It seems I needed to start it online once after trying offline for the first time. Or maybe it just glitched the first attempt. So it works offline I just confirmed.

Yeah, I'd heard (and seen) that Steam has its own built in online installation verification for games not of the developer's creation, but of Valve's. However, it would be nice if someone who owns it can test that prolonged play of the game offline is possible, as with some games (GTA 5) it needs to be verified online after a set period of time. Hope that's not the case, but would appreciate someone test.

A few involved adresses in this game

Various online functions and forced online mode
0.0.0.0 kraken-api.wbagora.com # HYDRA (Anti-Cheat?)
0.0.0.0 prod-event.wbplay.com # is for Events, profiledata/verification and so on
0.0.0.0 52.4.177.132 # this is the more or less online forced adress. Permanent active

Those stuff is "optional". It's forced stuff but without internet/blocked domains you can play as you want. Without online achievement, shop, mail etc.

Denuvo DRM
0.0.0.0 srv01.codefusion.technology
0.0.0.0 srv02.codefusion.technology
0.0.0.0 srv03.codefusion.technology
0.0.0.0 support.codefusion.technology
0.0.0.0 ocsp2.globalsign.com
0.0.0.0 crl.globalsign.com

Beside of cracked versions, or publisher will patch this crap out... there is actually no(legal?)way to bypass denuvo checks. Forced activation with every new patch or time intervals (That's the point here). Patches are not the problem if blocking the reposity folders from your bought product but time intervals left.... ~

No internet connection (for whatever reason) during the repetitive activation process = You can't use your own bought product

Ingame-EULA (as well optional)
0.0.0.0 www.shadowofwar.com # game site
0.0.0.0 hello.myfonts.net # fonts
0.0.0.0 fonts.googleapis.com # fonts2

It's an important consideration before buying and using this product with permanent online traffic. Forced functions are strong here. Related to your question, the only real problem will be Denuvo (for SoW and any other product with this mechanic)
