How to use poison tendril?

I just got the skill, and i keep aiming at a barrel and pressing g, but nothing ever happens.

Using it only poisons it, you still need to shoot it then, and if it doesn't trigger, putting the bow away and then switching back fixes it most of the time, in some occasions it just glitches and doesn't do anything but rarely

Do you have elf shot? Line of sight? Is the barrel highlighted when you aim at it? The effect is really subtle, but if you run up to it, you can tell by the green fog rolling off the top of the barrel. That and the barrel will explode into a poison cloud when shot instead of explode.

Yeah that the thing I have line of sight and everything, but i keep pressing it, and that green fog never appears on the barrel to show it has been poisoned
