But well, there arent really that many pure stealth games or good stealth games out there like Styx. Hence why it is a bummer that we wont get a Styx 3 for some time. If at all. Although the devs hinted that a new Styx game is not out of question.
It, like Styx, has very limited combat options (Less than Styx, even!) and also has some similar-ish abilities, though also has a dishonored-esque teleport, if you liked that. It's definitely something you should look into, though it has a very different aesthetic and might not be what you're looking for.
If you're looking for stealth games in general, with less necessity of them being similar to Styx, I have some other suggestions that you probably won't have heard of, since they're all a little more out there.
Gunpoint, Monaco, Satellite Reign, Clandestine.
Gunpoint is a 2D puzzle-stealth game with some hacking elements. Almost no similarity to Styx in terms of gameplay, but it's definitely an interesting thing when it comes to stealth.
Monaco is top-down chaotic nonsense, but again worth looking into.
Satellite Reign is... Very different, so you'll have to look into it if you're even going to consider it, but it's a good game that you can do almost entirely stealth if you build into it.
Clandestine is designed for two players, one being the hacker who enables the agent in levels to go through certain doors, avoid cameras, stuff like that. It can of course still be played singleplayer, and is VERY unique overall.
Just some ideas for you to look into overall, really.
definitely agreeing on thief also, but then he'd have to figure out what thief game to go with
Oh yeah, definitely going to give the thief series a look for sure. Haven't looked into them too much, but heard good things.
Aragami is on my wishlist, so maybe I'll get it sooner than later if you suggest it! I saw some gameplay and it certainly looks strategically interesting in terms of moving shadows and stuff.
I agree, Styx is quite unique in terms of pure stealth, such a perfect example of its genre... I can only hope devs decide to continue it, but thanks for these suggestions in the meantime :)
Ah, another Aragami suggestion! Thank you, I will look into that one.
You're right in saying I haven't heard of the rest haha, which is a good thing! Gunpoint sounds interesting for sure, I haven't looked into much 2D stealth games, but I don't wanna be missing out on a good stealth experience...
Interesting suggestions here, even if they aren't like Styx that's alright, still probably worth a look.
If you thought getting thief insignias were one of the funner parts of the Styx games, you'll have a great time with the rampant kleptomania in the Thief games.
It regularly goes on sale for $1, so watch out for it.

Daaaang, 7 bucks? Whatever happened to those prices lol...
I got Styx for that recent 2-dollar sale, so I'll definitely watch out for a steal like that.
I kind of like the idea of having to plan ahead in terms of stealing stuff, that sounds frustratingly fun! Definite add to the wishlist, for sure.
I also recommend Mark of the Ninja, which is a 2D stealth platformer. It feels kinda like Styx, in that it is important to hide your dead and plan how to not die stupidly.
or metal gear solid series another that comes to mind is the new thief i prefer that one over the old ones
