IMO, considering that they couldn't made another story so personal about Styx like MoS (it will be redundant), they choose to create a longer adventure where SoD is just the incipit.
Also it's a matter of cost, marketing, narrative decisions, economy, etc.
Before publish a bigger story (with all the cost related) you prefer to know how many people will potentially buy this product, so you made a 'pilot' and wait the reactions.
If something goes wrong you lose X money instead a bigger amount.
It's like the TV series: First the pilot, then the first season, then again, if sells well, the second, third, etc.
Anyway I'm pretty sure that we will have other Styx dlcs and games: if you check the negative reviews they're mostly:
-People that doesn't know what a Stealth game is (or who think that a stealth game is like assassins creed).
-People that complain about the "parkour" system (that is like to complain about Fifa because you couldn't play as arbiter, or not being able to stop to a fast food in need for speed) aka they doesn't even read the game description.
-People that complain about the co-op (that could be legit but you can't write a negative review for a single aspect of the game and ignore the rest)
Lastly: in a next chapter it's easier doing changes without massing around with the balances.
For example, removing the Acid mines / changing the consumes of amber and clones / adding extra ability / other things.
Generally I get pissed when I get a "continue..." at the end of a game, but this doesn't annoyed me, conversely I eager for new stories :P
I was disappointed with that as well. In the last game they gave us some answers, such as "Yes Styx survived his little dip in the Amber Lake" and all that, and in Of Orcs and Men Styx gave a short monologue discussing what happened after Styx and Arkail's confrontation with the emperor.
But in this one we get nothing. We're expected to assume Djarak was struck down by Styx and the Goblin probably went back into hiding but there's no clear cut answer. I appreciate a mystery because its fun to speculate but some hints would have been nice.
I hope there's some kind of follow up soon. Maybe as you've said a short DLC or may a patch that adds in a better ending, because the current one really disappointed me. Kinda let down this otherwise great game.
I agree with you on your points about some of the reviews left. Its dumb as hell how the game is being marked as totally negative based on the co-op mode. Sure it may well be bad, (I haven't tried it yet) but you can't mark the whole product down just cause of that, that's absurd.
I was hoping that Djarek would pull out a Quartz wand, and blast styx off the airship, with Styx holding onto a ledge going "Augh, I'm gettin' Frakken Deja vu", and as Djarek taunts him, Hellendryn runs him through with a sword and holds out a hand to Styx, who goes "Alright alright, this just about makes us even" before grabbing her hand and it ending there.
You know, something other than a sudden betrayal followed by a "smash to black". :s
I mean, it wasn't a BAD ending, but I feel like it kiiiiinda missed the mark a tiny bit.
Ah well. Still a fantastic game.
Had you instead just seen the bolt peg him in the face I can't help but feel that wouldn't have felt any better as far as an ending was concerend.
Buuuuut that's just me. I think it was a hint that maybe DLC would involve taking down Djarak, because maybe somehow he gets away, I don't know. Anyway, just my thoughts, I absolutely adore this game just as much as the last.
I do miss Akenash though XD
Well, this game is tooo well done to be a pilot. Not saying you are wrong. Just not sure if I'll describe it like that.
I'm with you 100%
She was one HECK of an amazing character. She really held her own and made for a true "partner".
There were plenty of times she could have screwed Styx over, and yet she didn't. She even intended to follow through on her deal the whole time. In a dark and double-cross filled setting like this, that's admirable. She more than earned my respect.
I wish we got to see her make it out of that place. :s
This ending would be awesome :) And in character. It's Helledryn's airship, after all.
Helledryn was under cover the whole time at Korrangar. At first she had documents, later she was wearing elven armour. Don't think it was too difficult for her to gain passage to wherever she wants. Also she is more than capable of killing elves who could start to suspect something.
I believe it's becaues he is famous. What of her reaction - she is emotional, maybe she thought he is just a criminal, and suddenly he appears to be not that simple, she is surprised and overreacts a bit.
Yeah her reaction over Djarek can be due to that too. She does seem abit emotional for someone so badass. Her nickname was The Giant for crying out loud.
About Helledryn, I'm just saying her resourcefulness is abit too much. Sure, you can explain it all but it's not going to satisfy me. Remember how paranoid and racist the Elves can be? They treat non-elf like goblins.. Basically.
Anyway, 1st she magically appear behind the gates for the Embassy (or was it Sanctuary) BEFORE she had the armor and pass. Styx was even surprised about it himself. Which says alot, if you can surprise someone who inflitrates and steals for a living.
She was also magically confident of being able to escape without an Airship or any aid from Styx apart from killing the big green turd. Which is also saying alot. Remember having seen any human there? Yeah, any human not in a cage will be killed without question. Hell, even humans in a cage can be killed with no hestitation.
She's like freaking Batman. And I'M BATMAN.
