Just not much of a co-op player; I find it too clumsy and contrived.
"Hey! Lookit that girl! Boy, is she hot!"
"Really? She looks just okay to me."
"Are you kidding me? She's got legs for days! and that smile!"
"Oh. I hadn't noticed. I guess she IS kind of…attractive."
So…split screen? I don't see it.
Well allow me to explain: You invite a friend over, you want to play a game together. They didn't bring their computer tower, a second TV, and their own copy of the game. Splitscreen solves that problem. It caters to people who like to play games in the same room as their friends.
Yes it's not as good as everyone having their own screen for visibility. However it worked pretty damn well for Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and we were playing that on an Xbox in 360p on a 20 inch 4:3 CRT not a modern 55 inch 4k display like we would be now.
Myself has a hardware setup that easily accomodates split-screen gaming…if I wanted it, but I don't. I have two widescreen HD monitors, but I frankly do NOT understand the attraction, so I only use one monitor at a time.
Maybe, in multiplayer scenarios, where everyone participating is using two-screen dsiplays, I could see the benefit, but there is ZERO motivation for me in singleplayer (my preferred mode of play) to go dual-screen.
You don't NEED a second computer; all you need is a GPU that isn't utter crap—and my GPU can do that job QUITE well—but, I don't want[ it to do that job. So—hey, let me guess: You have zero experience in Sales, right? You can't sell me on your idea. Myself can sell snow to Eskimos, and make them happy they bought it.
…and in case you desire to attempt to impugn my technical knowledge and skills, I've been "playing the PC game" since 1984, and have taught Computer Science at university. You're trying to teach the wrong dog how to bark.

Let me start off with you saying "See, you are assuming "everyone" sees things the way you do, owns the same things you do," and then you start bringing up that YOU got 2 monitors and all that crap, so that is YOU assuming that everyone has what you do.
"why the Hell would you need a second tower, a second TV, and another copy of the game in the first damned place?"
...Do you not know what an obvious exagerated joke is? He wasn't being that you needed All of that, it was simply stating that in order for someone to play with someone else and it doesn't have split-screen, you'd need to bring your own set-up. and that includes either a PC + screen and a copy of the game, The TV and Tower part was the exagerated joke that completely went over your head.
You claim to have been playing since 1984, yet you never experianced Split-screen when playing with a Friend? were you a complete lone wolf? no friends? no siblings? that's sad.
Cause if you had either, you'd know the usefulness of split-screen.
And then you bring up you don't see the attraction of split-screen, and that you got a dual monitor.
Well guess what genius, not everyone has more than one monitor.
And what i find even more funny is that you mention playing in Dual Screen in Single Player, no f***ing sh*t that playing dual screen in single player is dumb, NO ONE does that, i don't understand why you even bring that up!
"You don't NEED a second computer; all you need is a GPU that isn't utter crap" not everyone can afford that tho you absolute muppet!
If you're as old as you claim to be, you'd expect that you wouldn't be acting like an entitled, spoiled brat. Not everyone can afford the good stuff, fkn think before you make such comments.
"…and in case you desire to attempt to impugn my technical knowledge and skills, I've been "playing the PC game" since 1984, and have taught Computer Science at university. You're trying to teach the wrong dog how to bark" what a weird and stupid flex... no one cares.
"hey, let me guess: You have zero experience in Sales, right? You can't sell me on your idea. Myself can sell snow to Eskimos, and make them happy they bought it"
He explained it perfectly that even a lil kid would understand, hell, I understoode it when i Was a little kid.
So don't you dare go saying he didn't sell the reason for split-screen, he did, you're too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb to grasp it.
And ending with.
"Unsubscribing in anticipation of trollery."
That is the coward's Get Out Of Jail Free card on the internet.
It's the same as "i don't have time for this, i got other more important things to do" when in reality it means "i have lost, and i know what i've said will be countered easily and thrown back in my face, so i better escape"
Since the coward unsubbed from the convo, he will most likely not see this, but i don't care, it needed to be said, even if it was several years later.
you what, mate? I don't have a spare PC lying around and a spare ethernet cable to hook it up to my router just in case someone wants to come over and play some games with me.
Games have been progressively less split screen. Couch co-op is such a rarity, which is a shame, cause it's one of the best ways to experience video games ever.
But btw... there's a guide on youtube now on how to make split screen so you should check that out. I don't know if it works, but I can sort of see how it could work, so it might be legit.
I wish I could try it, but my gf isn't into video games so it would be just frustrating to get her used to the controls :(
You should try playing a co-op campaign of Portal 2 with her instead. A physics-based puzzle game is something non-gamers can kind of appreciate/understand better, its controls are really simple, the game itself isn't hardware intensive (and it actually does have split-screen). and It will also let them feel less like a pointless passenger, since they'll be thinking and experimenting right alongside you.
Portal 2 co-op is a great introduction to someone who isn't normally into video games.
ps. No matter how bad a non-gamer is at controls or trying to figure out how stuff works, NEVER take the controller out of their hands or give them explicit advice unless they ask for it. Gaming is all about interactivity and discovery, and taking it away is the best way to put someone off it.
