Celebrating One Month of Retro Rewind!

Hi to all video store owners!

It’s been one month since Retro Rewind launched on Steam, and we wanted to give you guys a little update! We are currently working hard on the next features. We did add a few small things already, but the first main update will be coming shortly.

Community-Voted Feature

Our community poll on Discord wrapped up and the video store owners have spoken!

We are excited to announce that we’ll be adding more depth to customer profiles in a future update. Each customer will have their own membership page, featuring detailed information and a breakdown of their previous fees.

We’ll also be introducing a VIP Club as an upgrade to the standard membership. Customers will be able to sign up for a seasonal pass, giving them access to exclusive discounts and perks.

Additionally, many of you have been asking for a way to deal with… impatient customers 😤

We hear you, and it’s something we’re actively looking into!

Upcoming Updates

Repair Station Incoming

We are currently working on the Repair Station! For all you movie collectors out there, don’t throw away your damaged tapes just yet. You’ll soon be able to fix them up and put them back on your shelves.

This update will be dropping soon (along with extra goodies)!

A Little Teaser...

Looking a bit further ahead, we wanted to share a small teaser of a much bigger update coming in a few months.

Let’s just say… this one is going to bring back a LOT of memories.

For any new players who missed the previous news, we’ve shared a roadmap of free post-launch updates for Retro Rewind.

Ambitious idea for the future

How cool would it be if there was a mode, or a separate game that could be compatible with this one, that allowed you to make your own short movies with the models and assets made available in this game? They could then be rented and/or shown on screens in your video store. Think something akin to The Movies or the more recent Blockbuster Inc., but with a direct tie to Retro Rewind. Randomly generating the videos was the wrong way to go.

Not a single video I've seen has been funny or interesting. They feel like mad libs, and often there is just a floating object in the middle of the poster with no logical context for what the video is. You had a HUGE opportunity to have references or honestly just funny original ideas for movies. Instead, we have complete nonsense like "cigarette, you will die" and even repetitive titles like "convictman fury, the convict that followed you home, the convict hacker" and judging on the cover art, they look ...

This update mainly adds more languages and storage.

Add content
- Storage for box
- Storage for movies

Balancing
- Reduced candy dispenser price ($300 → $250)
- Increased candy price revenue ($0.50 → $1.00)

Translation
- Fix fonts for Spanish
- Fix missing textures in Spanish

Adding languages
- Italian
- Brazilian Portuguese

- Traditional Chinese (Work in progress)

When will additional content be added to the game?
We are targeting the end of April for the first update. It will include the Tape Repair Station and more. We are actively following your feedback across Steam, Discord, and Reddit, and we know you want much more for Retro Rewind. More features are already in development.. we are just not ready to reveal them yet. :)

This game is great, aside from the fact that there's no way to punish the customers who throw tapes on the ground when they don't like that you're making them pay their broken or late fees. I also think that this game would be very fun if there was a multiplayer aspect, as me and my husband both love the game and wish that we could play it together. Aside from that, this game is great.

TV Only 3 Channels Work?

Anyone else notice this? If you look at the files, there is supposed to be a video for each of the channels, but only 3 channels work. I know what you are going to say... I don't have the right files in the other channels... but I already tested that. Using the pre-established template demonstrated file structure, only a few channels work. In my tests, I've taken videos that refuse to work and moved them into channels that work, renaming and they work fine! The videos that were working, I moved into t...

Bug at checkout counter

Hey, brand new to the game, just bought it. So far it seems fun! However, just on my second day, a customer came to checkout. She had 2 movies and when she went to put it on the counter, one of them fell through the counter and I could not retrieve it, nor could I finish her checkout, so I was just stuck there. I'm still new so I'm just going to restart the day, but wanted to let you know that it happened....

Added a timer to the avoidance system so characters can briefly clip through others if stuck
Fixed clients ignoring the clearance bin
Improved client pathing when returning movies to the dropbox and exiting the store
Balance the maximum number of clients in store (30 → 25)
Fixed an issue where shelves remained occupied after clients were done using them, preventing others from accessing them

Fun for the first few hours until you get your first employee. Then it becomes apparent that the game has no depth and you go through the same monotonous slog every day: return video tapes, stock shelves, and serve the checkout. There is no store management. You can buy all the expansions and shelves you want, but it doesn't really meaningfully affect the gameplay loop in any way.
