Telltale Games bankruptcy
So how (and when) did Lucasfilm re-acquire the rights to this game?
Did Telltale Games sold it to them or is Lucasfilm just allowed to sell this game because Telltale Games went bankrupt.
As far as I know Lucasfilm lost any rights to Sam & Max as soon as Telltale was founded. Wasn't this also the reason why they needed to cut Sam & Max from the Monkey Island 2 Special Edition?

Did Telltale ever have the rights to this? I know they had the rights to future games, but it's been sold on GOG for a while with Lucasarts listed as the publisher.
But the timing does seem odd.
Lucas Arts sold the rights to CREATE future games but never sold the licence and copy right of the existent game "Sam 'n Max - Hit the Road". Since George Lucas sold Lucasfilms and all his other companies to Disney, they inhabit the legal rights of the Lucas Arts catalogue.

LucasArts does not own Sam and Max. Steve Purcell, the creator of the comic, does. Lucasarts developed this game in the early 90s and as a result likely owns the assets and publishing rights.

The timing is likely the gog exclusivity running out, rather than anything else.

This.
Telltale NEVER owned the right to Sam & Max. They only licensed it from Steve Purcell.

Telltale never held right to Sam & Max, infact they make games like Back to the Future, Game of thrones etc but do not own the rights. Sam & Max hit the road is an old adventure game fro mthe 90's that needs to be ''REMASTERED'' but Disney is like thick ♥♥♥♥♥ through a funnel as we say in Dutch (doesn't sound the same hehe) when it comes to making awesome plans for Remasters.

I wished they did not have all the rights to my favorite Lucas arts adventure games.
I'd like to see
Indiana Jones & the fate of Atlantis remastered
Sam & Max hit the road remastered
The Dig remstered
and most of all , the curse of monkey Island remasterd
