It's might also be some leftover reflex from playing too much Tyrian (limited reactor energy).
I'm playing since one hour now, and I would love to activate the auto-fire :D ...
If is true, maybe I wont buy it. Why not put a config option to enable/disable auto fire? It seems better for all the players.
In maxed out endgame the rockets are basically useless and under-powered in anything not a boss fight. Would be nice to have them selectively disabled or some less annoying target priorities.
Moral:
Do NOT focus test games using casuals and / or Call of Duty players.
Clearly you never played the arcade shooters (like, Flying Shark or 1942) which this game is seemingly based on. Raises the question: Why even play a game like this when there are so many other "streamlined" shooters out there for modern, "generation casual" gamers?
It may simply be interesting to add an option for all controllers (with an additional option for the co-op player) to switch auto-fire on and off. That way everyone is happy regardless of the controller they use and also their co-op partner can set it up the way they like it too.
Ill tell you exactly why you should be able to disable autofire when using a keyboard - ARCADE CABINET!!!
I have an IPAC keyboard controller wired up to to a load of Siemetsu buttons and joysticks on my homemade cabinet, its awesome, except for your game which has the stupid autofire on and I cant turn it off.
The question here is surely "why not just have the option to turn the damn thing off?"
This game would be perfect with an option to actual rebind the keyboard keys, autofire off manual (like most shot em ups) and a slow movement while pressing left shift (for those tight moves that are difficult with keyboard.
Sadly, I don't see them happening any time soon.
That's not true. Autofire can be turned on or off for keyboard. I literally bought the game last night and it was the first thing I turned OFF. This setting is IN-GAME.(playing keyboard) While it says some garbage about a controller there for no apparent reason, it works for keyboard just the same. I don't know or care if they changed this months or years ago, but it works for keyboard.
Your assertion is again untrue. The game has rebind options. Hold down ALT when launching the game from steam and rebind whatever you want. Again, literaly one of the first things I did before playing.
Need more proof? Here take a look at the devs post:

Autofire is mandatory for keyboard controls."
* Hell! Even in this post the devs denies the support for autofire off on keyboards! ;)
Also we are talking about SFA not SFR, wich I saw they had some issues with the autofire but you can turn it off on keyboard. As for Aniversary it's just like that.
About the ALT thing, well you got that right.
