The Great Tower
Thanks increpare for this awesome game.

Spoilers up to second island...

So the Great Tower, that puzzle with the huge sausage stack on the second island, throws a bunch of new mechanics at you – stacking sausages in odd ways, standing on sausages to roll them (least that's how I solved), etc. Most of the second island is about using walls to fork.

Kinda advanced level to encounter this early into the game, right? Not many games would combine that many new mechanics all at once. It was the last one I beat in the second area before advancing. When I first saw it I was like oh hell no.

Others feel the same? I actually liked that it was such a new challenge all at once, felt right for the game. Little curious about it from a game design standpoint.

Reading the discussions on Steam I saw many people saying that the puzzle is simple, easy, one guy even said that it is one of the easiest in the whole game, even considering the others in the same world. I considered these comments so unrealistic that I thought I was missing something obvious, and finally decided to watch a video on Youtube... Nah, the puzzle is stupidly more complex than the previous ones.

I had a similar reaction to yours. For me, the Tower was simply too much to take in one go and I had to look up the solution to pass it. But if you've liked the other puzzles so far, I strongly encourage you to go on. Because this was the only instance in the game that (at least for me) felt so out of place. Sure there's plenty of challenges ahead, but I don't recall having to figure out new mechanics in such a complex fashion again. And there's A LOT of good stuff in the rest of the game.

This puzzle is not difficult, it's just out of place. If it's at somewhere in the 3rd area, it would be more understandable since the whole area is based on stacked sausages and rolling on sausages. Having to figure out all the new mechanics at once could be frustrating. Even though I managed to solve it on my own, I totally agree with everybody here complaining about it.

Currently at the 5th area, the game is fantastic so far. I feel sorry for those who quit because of this puzzle.

The great tower is uh... well great! I like its unconventinal placing and it seems more frightening than it actually is, don't be afraid and just try your luck, you will learn a lot of new tricks by figuring it out.

If you know how to roll one sausage into the grill you know the trick for the rest of them as well.

I honestly thought about deinstalling the game at that point. "I'm never going to beat this one", I thought. But I found myself thinking about the puzzle later that night, booted it up again next day, fiddled around with the mechanics and eventually learned what I had to do. After that it was just executing it. I'm glad I stuck with the game. (Still not finished, though.)

Yeah I also though "Yeeeeesh, that's waaaaay tooo much" but then I sticked with it and it just worked. Maybe it was supposed to be intimidating so that you have a sandbox to learn different interactions with the sausages. I can assure you it's definitely worth it not surrendering, the game wan't become easier but nontheless I think it's satisfying solving its riddles.

I arrived at the Great Tower today and am thinking of quitting the game.

I haven't had much difficulty until then. I solved all the puzzles before the Great Tower in about 3 hours, which I think is not such a long time considering that the game is difficult.

But the Great Tower seemed to me a whole new level of difficulty.

I needed 3 hours to do everything before the tower, but I am sure I would not find the solution to this puzzle in less than 2 hours, which would make me need almost the same time as all of the approximately 20 previous puzzles.

For me the Great Tower is too cryptic, it requires the use of mechanics that the player doesn't even know exists, it requires a lot of aimless experimentation and trial and error.
Seems to me like you're not breaking the puzzle down into sections. Looking at it piece by piece, rather than a whole, each step really only has one possible solution and they stand out like a sore thumb. I don't consider myself good at games like this but I currently have 3.3 hours playtime and I've done several puzzles since beating The Great Tower.
I stopped playing this game for 4 years because of this puzzle, before having the courage to get back to it (and then I did the rest of the game without too much trouble)
I think that it is a poor placement, the puzzle would be as interesting in the middle of the world 3, but way less daunting. A spike in difficulty is great if it is coming from an interesting idea, which is not the case here.

I've reached this point and it's not clicking at all, even after reading the hints in the Steam guides.

What bothers me most is that there's no way around the level. I've done everything else in world 2, so I feel like I may as well give up.

Perhaps it would be a good time for me to try Pipe Push Paradise again, go back to Baba Is You, or start A Monster's Expedition, all of which are waiting in my Steam library.

Who knows, maybe I'll come back to Sausage Roll a bit smarter.

The thing is, it looks like more than it it really is. If you can fry one pair of sausages, you can fry all the other ones the same way.

The frying part is easy. Figuring out how to stack the sausages is the tricky part, at least for me.

I watched two videos where people rolled sausages along the walls, climbing up and down the ladders, back and forth... they were convoluted, brute-forced, and a bit lucky if you ask me.

Then, after struggling through it myself (in an equally ugly manner), I looked at a video by Erindavide, and it was a masterclass in elegance.

So it seems to me that the intended solution just wasn't clear enough, leaving most of us to flail our grilling forks around in desperation.
