Steam Link

Pi 5
Is Steam Link compatible with the Raspberry Pi 5, and if not does Valve plan on making it compatible once they get a hold of one?

Not sure if Raspberry Pi Trading provided Valve with any review units, but if not they will be shipping by the end of October.

We don't have any advance Pi 5 units, but I'm looking forward to checking it out once it's released.

Make sure to pre-order ASAP; I believe SparkFun is taking pre-orders. You don't want to get stuck buying them from scalpers.

I'm personally yet to be convinced considering PSU requirements and whether or not I need the additional processing power or PCI Express support.

Just got my Raspberry Pi 5 8GB delivered 2 days ago,
of course Steam Link doesn't work on it, it wants to install the 32bit libraries and if I proceed it will uninstall plenty of stuff needed for the OS messing up everything.
Running Raspberry Pi OS (Bookworm) 64bit, guess we'll wait and see?

Bookworm doesn't have any libraries that can satisfy Steamlink currently. Trying to force it will break libstdc++6, and Pi5 can't boot earlier Raspbian OSes.

So at least they can fix it on Pi 3/4 and if they're lucky it will make Pi 5 work?

It does work on my Pi 3B 32bit, not on my Pi 5 because it's 64bit and it's missing the libraries.

Bookworm OS?

I don't know about Bookworm on the old 3B, but on Bullseye 32bit it does work, probably Bookworm works too in the 32bit version, haven't checked.

so, thers no solution now, to get steam link working on pi5 ?
QQ Bee Jan 1, 2024 @ 4:21pm
Valve would have to make a Bookworm build.

This also shows why Steam Client on Linux ships with its own set of runtime libraries, to reduce dependency on distro-provided libraries.

It's not just that, ARM is not really used that much, and essentially all games are built for x86, and if you think of it even the Steam Deck runs on x86, the exact reason for that is that games wouldn't run on ARM.

Well yes, don't even try it, because as you can see it tries to install armhf architecture stuff, that's wrong for the pi5. It will just mess up your OS.

And another ten days without news
