Steam Link
Steam link (beta) on android tv box not starting
Hi,
I have one of those android tv boxes (ie. TX3 mini, amlogic chipset) with android 7.1.
I installed the app from play store without any issues but then for me it just won't start: the screen goes black for an instant then is back to the "desktop" launcher.
Is there any hope to get it to work on such devices?
Thanks

I have the same problem with mi Philips Android TV but only with my girlfriend PC which has a AMD graphic card. On my computer with a GTX 970 works perfectly.

Not sure we speak about the same thing. For me the app itself just won't start, not getting to the pc linking or anything like that.
Do you know how to use ADB (the Android Debug Bridge)? If so, I'd recommend enabling developer mode on the TX3 Mini, and then using "adb logcat" to see what happens when you try to run the Steam Link app. If there is something that prevents the app from running entirely, chances are at least _something_ useful will show up in the adb log output.
Yeah, I uses ADB before, but this thing has only big usb - the kind you put a usb stick in. I don't have a cable to connect to similar looking port on PC. (It's power input is on coaxial btw)
Yet I enabled dev mode and tried some settings but no luck...

If you have the IP address of your TX3 Mini (which you can find under the Network settings), you should be able to do "adb connect <IP>" to connect over your local network rather than using USB. If that works, then it will show up in "adb devices" and you can do "adb logcat" to view the system log as it appears.

If you do that and then try running the app, something useful might show up. :)
I already read the log and it seems that the app is crashing because of missing BluetoothManager.java. I think the manager is missing because the device don't have bluetooth. I'm using a MX 10 tv box. Maybe it's the same problem you had. I don't think that there is a workaround. We just have to wait until valve handle missing bluetooth support.

Can you post the exact log message?

Thanks!
Thanks for the info panzenbaby. I didn't got a chance to get the log myself buy my device doesn't have a bluetooth either so I guess it may be the same reason. How did you got the log, adb?

Thanks for the last update. It fixed the starting issue.
But now, after connecting it looks like this: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1421325266
Any solutions?

Hmm...sorry but I don't recall exactly how but I did it, it was something regarding resolution but don't recall even if the settings were from the box/tv or steam app on pc
