Typing on Android

As of a few days ago when typing I have to confirm the word I'm typing much like selecting predicted words, each key pressed doesn't automatically type onto the screen. When I select the word I want it generally adds a space into it or something similar.

Special characters work without issue however (Spaces, Full stops etc.)

I have uninstalled steam from my PC+ the Steamlink app from my phone. This happens on two different phones, so isn't a phone issue and I've tried on a new steam account.

I've come to a dead end and any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Edit: Two phones are a Oneplus 6T + Xaomi Redmi Note 7

There is another post that describes this same issue, minus the fact that you are able to type special characters. I hope they issue a fix for this soon, I am unable to log into my games in the current state.

I have the same problem, my keyboard doesn't work at all other then to type numbers and symbols, but I can't type letters. It doesn't work even with me clicking the predicted words though.

I have the xiaomi redmi note 7 and i'm using google keyboard

Been a while since I used Steam link and when I used it today, it was frustrating as heck as I had same problem like you. Can type special characters/numbers but can't type in any form of language letters.

What I did was to downgrade to 1.1.38 by downloading it from sites (you can easily find them, Google - 'Android use older version app' something like that) and it's working just fine now....I'll stick with the old version till Steam does something to fix this issue.

Yes, this old bug seems to have come back in the latest version. I'm guessing the "fix" mentioned in the changelog undid this fix...

Okay, I've narrowed it down to 3 keyboard settings that need to be disabled. If they are all off, typing works normally. If ANY is enabled, it stops working. They are:

- Show suggestion strip
- Auto-correction
- Spell check (weirdly)

All within the Text correction submenu.

So if you're looking for a workaround, you can disable all those options temporarily. Hopefully this helps valve debug the issue too.

Can confirm that updating to the latest steamlink version has made my phone's keyboard unresponsive.

not sure where to find the text correction submenu on my phone. tried nearly ever combination of keyboard settings to no avail. using an lg g7 thinq running android 9

Also find that with the latest update bringing up the keyboard completely disconnects the controller from working. Restarting the application reconnects it. Using a Google Pixel 6 and Android 13 with Razer Kishi.

The workaround worked for me, thanks.

Still anoyed they haven't aknowleged the issue yet, has been about a month since last update. Hopefully they fix this soon since I don't want to have to disable this features every time I want to play.
