Steam Link VR stutters alot
I'm getting alot of stuttering while playing steam link VR on my Quest 3. I normally use Airlink or Virtual Desktop, and I have a good wifi setup so playback is quite smooth.

My setup:
Wired ethernet from my PC to my Wifi 6 router.
Quest 3 on the wifi 6 router, with 2400mbps.

On this setup in airlink and virtual desktop at H.264 300mbps, my playback is very smooth. But using the default settings on steam link VR I am missing a lot of frames and seeing a lot of stutter.

Just providing feedback so I hope Valve sees this. Hope it gets better! :)

Make sure all of your other streaming apps aren’t running in the background.

a few things to check
disable any vpn, on host and client
if using wifi, make sure wifi isolation is disabled on the router settings
windows network is set to private not public
steam -> settings -> remote play -> allow direct = all/auto/my not disabled

any of those will force steam to use internet relays instead of direct connection, using your internet upload and download causing higher delays for the stream

I am noticing an average of around 30% less FPS when using Steam Link. Have confirmed this on multiple headsets and multiple systems. Looks like Valve needs to polish it up a bit more. Recommend switching back to VD or Airlink until Valve does.

I tested earlier today, have been super pleased with virtual desktop - getting 120 hz. Today I tested steam link and set it to 120 and the studders were beyond terrible, could not play at all. Then someone suggested I change it to 90 and I will say this, its better than virtual desktop playing Automobilista 2. Its perfect. Sound is louder, etc.
I tried iracing stand alone version and could not get it to launch in VR mode. Steam games play great. Wish they would allow non steam games as the latency was like 8ms max when i put the graph up. This is a great start for this app.

I think it's also a problem with application priority management. for example with only the game and VR no problem, everything is fluid, if I launch an internet browser, I start to have stutters . I'm not talking about obs, so that's a disaster ( Windows 11 ).

Stutters a lot for me, even though GPU and CPU utilisation are in the green. I'm on a Quest Pro, 3090FE and a WiFi 6E router.

We have added items under our "Troubleshooting" section of our FAQ under the "If you are experiencing performance issues:" section. https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0E2C-406B-9135-38A4 based on user feedback.

Let us know if you find resolutions that are not yet in this list.

Side-note: OBS should be possible to use if you use software encoding.

Same issue here. Everything for me was working perfectly fine last night- 60mbps with WiFi Direct on my Quest 2, and today I wake up and I'm only getting 5mbps and not more. Occasional increases to 10 for about 2 seconds before it drops back down. Didn't touch anything, and I'm very disappointed since it was working amazing before- better than airlink had ever been for me.

In general we've tried to find the various things that have fixed users situations - one of the most surprising ones to me was toggling the wifi off-and-on in headset, and/or rebooting a router. If you find the cause of your degradation, please let us know what worked for you.

I've found some success by setting my dedicated router to AP/bridged mode with a different SSID! Just make sure you plug your main router/modem into a LAN port and not the WAN port on the dedicated router.
I've noticed my stuttering (Quest Pro) only happens when moving 6DOF - leaning forward, backward, etc. Simply rotating my head performs perfectly. Seems like a reprojection problem to me, but it also doesn't look like we get any reprojection settings with Steam Link.

I experience micro judder on all solutions except for Airlink. The amount on SteamVR link is comparable to Virtual Desktop (probably somewhat better), in that they both fail to achieve the buttery smooth performance of the official Oculus Solution. I'd like to SteamLink VR with Sliced Encoding disabled (if possible) and see how that improves things. (Superstitional)

Exact same issue. Airlink generally works fine, virtual desktop generally works fine, steamlink stutters badly for me. I have a 4080 and Asus wifi 6e router. I can play virtual desktop at 500mbps h264 or even higher with airlink. But steamlink is sadly the worst solution. The stuttering gets even worse when I turn up the bitrate over 250. And it does not perform well under 250 either with random micro stutter. Other solutions work fine.

Please put some work into this and fix it. Right now it's the most problematic solution imo and it should be leading the way to play steam vr games. It also lacks configurable options to help diagnose these issues. We hardly have anything we can tweak.
