The audio is extremely high pitched and unhearable to listen too.
Now I wanted to also pair my steam deck so I could play regular 2d/3d games on a big virtual screen with the Quest 3 but it seems this is not supported yet: I cannot pair a second remote steam client once I've paired the first one (my home pc). I can't even unpair the first one. Am I looking in the wrong location ?
Over the years, I've made extensive use of Air Link and Virtual Desktop and watched the latter's development as they added new features to improve image quality. Despite great strides, Virtual Desktop still suffers from streaky/smeary compression artefacts and colour banding in certain scenarios.
Astonishingly, Steam Link suffers from none of these issues. The image is clear, stable, and free of colour banding. I have a few VRChat worlds that I have previously used to stress test Virtual Desktop while testing and comparing its various codecs and settings. When I subjected Steam Link to the same tests, I was wowed with the performance.
Going forward, there is one key feature that I want to see added to Steam Link for Quest and that is a motion smoothing system. This is necessary to mitigate frame judder that occurs when the PC fails to render fast enough to meet the headset's refresh rate.
Air Link has 'Asynchronous Spacewarp' (performed on the PC) and Virtual Desktop has 'Synchronous Spacewarp[developer.qualcomm.com]' (performed on the headset using Qualcomm's Adreno Motion Engine).
As I understand it, Valve Index users have access to an equivalent feature called 'Motion Smoothing' (performed on the PC), which can be turned on in the General or Video sections of SteamVR settings. Currently, it's not available for Steam Link users so, if it would make sense to do so, I'd like to suggest making it available. A better idea, though, would probably be to implement a system similar to Virtual Desktop's headset-side solution.
