Steam Link now available on Meta Quest
We're excited to announce the streaming technology of Steam Link is now available on the Meta Quest 2, 3, and Pro, allowing you to wirelessly play VR games from your Steam library.

Steam Link is a free app that uses the power of your PC to stream Steam games onto phones, tablets, and TVs — and now, on Meta Quest.

Before you begin: You'll need a router with a wired connection to your PC, and a 5GHz WiFi network for your headset.

Getting started
  • Make sure Steam and SteamVR are installed and running on your PC
    • Note: You may need to restart Steam to confirm you are running the latest version of Steam and SteamVR
  • Connect your headset to the same network as your PC
  • Download the free Steam Link[www.meta.com] app to your headset.
  • The app will walk you through wirelessly connecting your computer to your headset.

Minimum requirements
Before you connect, make sure you have:
  • Wi-Fi: 5 GHz minimum, wired connection to PC
  • GPUs: NVIDIA (GTX970 or better)
  • OS: Windows 10 or newer
  • Headset: Meta Quest 2, 3, or Pro

Recommended (but not required): A broadband internet connection with Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 6E, and a computer with at least 16 GB RAM and NVIDIA GPU, RTX2070 or better.

Note that this version of the Steam Link app is for VR only, and does not support streaming games directly.

Works well and seems more responsive than airlink, but black levels seem crushed as dark areas in Alyx are just pitch black. Audio isn't working either. Streaming (& audio) works fine to my phone and TV, so...

This is great, though I'm really hoping for Linux and AMD support too!

It works great but there is one big issue and that is the audio.
The audio is extremely high pitched and unhearable to listen too.

Does not detect the Linux Steam client from Quest 2. The Quest 2 app does not detect my computer (Ubuntu Linux) while my standalone Steam Link TV box does detect it.

Need local dimming support for quest pro!

I tried it and it worked flawlessly, even with no wifi 6 yet.
Now I wanted to also pair my steam deck so I could play regular 2d/3d games on a big virtual screen with the Quest 3 but it seems this is not supported yet: I cannot pair a second remote steam client once I've paired the first one (my home pc). I can't even unpair the first one. Am I looking in the wrong location ?

Performance seems great, but in quest2 there is a clear line above which everything is blurry. Any chance we can reposition the focal point? I focus higher up on the lens than most I guess.

So there’s no way to use it with my Steam Deck if I don’t have a separate PC?

Steam Link for Quest is a stellar release that I'm extremely impressed with! I'm particularly pleased with the image quality and ease of use.

Over the years, I've made extensive use of Air Link and Virtual Desktop and watched the latter's development as they added new features to improve image quality. Despite great strides, Virtual Desktop still suffers from streaky/smeary compression artefacts and colour banding in certain scenarios.

Astonishingly, Steam Link suffers from none of these issues. The image is clear, stable, and free of colour banding. I have a few VRChat worlds that I have previously used to stress test Virtual Desktop while testing and comparing its various codecs and settings. When I subjected Steam Link to the same tests, I was wowed with the performance.

Going forward, there is one key feature that I want to see added to Steam Link for Quest and that is a motion smoothing system. This is necessary to mitigate frame judder that occurs when the PC fails to render fast enough to meet the headset's refresh rate.

Air Link has 'Asynchronous Spacewarp' (performed on the PC) and Virtual Desktop has 'Synchronous Spacewarp[developer.qualcomm.com]' (performed on the headset using Qualcomm's Adreno Motion Engine).

As I understand it, Valve Index users have access to an equivalent feature called 'Motion Smoothing' (performed on the PC), which can be turned on in the General or Video sections of SteamVR settings. Currently, it's not available for Steam Link users so, if it would make sense to do so, I'd like to suggest making it available. A better idea, though, would probably be to implement a system similar to Virtual Desktop's headset-side solution.

Will hand tracking in quests be supported by Steam Link because we've been wanting hand tracking for PCVR for years.
