Steam Link

Steam Link

Multiple Steam LInk devices to a single powerful PC host?
I feel that the Steam Link could be really interesting if you were able to use a single powerful computer to host games on several link devices. I've run the same game on my computer in individual windows, and they all run fairly smoothly. The ability to do the same over a network to 4 steam link devices would allow for lan parties where people joining don't actually need to bring any hardware, and I woulnd't need to purchase 4 computers. For this feature... I'd buy a bunch of these things for sure (even if I did have to turn down the settings on each system).

if you can run multiple instances of steam on a computer then yes, but remember you will still be capped on wireless data transfer on the host pc.

Basically I find it useful, in my case, since I am using two different gaming pcs in different rooms. I would spent the same amount of money then for a single high(er) end machine instead of for 2 gaming pcs I guess ;-)

As far as I could find out it has 3 USB ports and 1 hdmi port.

But now one question: How do I connect a headset for voice chat to it? I doubt it would work with the usb ports...

Hmm It will connect to most games and steam voice chat, but I don't know if you will be able to use it for third party voice chat like mumble, skype, TS and other voip services.

I don't think you can run 2 instances of the same game at the same time then stream them to 2 links. Even with different games there is always 1 that takes priority over another. You can do a test launch 2 games and see, one will always have focus depending on which one is in the front and which is minimized. Steam only streams the games that are active and on the screen. This is why when I stream to another PC my main gaming PC always has the game running on it's screen as well. Kind of think of Steam streaming as Cloning what you see on your main gaming rig.

you can stream the same thing to multiple steam link clients

or if you use a vm, and run steam on each, using virtual displays you can use the host pc to stream different games to each link
