Steam link not sending sound to TV...
When I try to use the Steam Link the audio comes from my computer (thats in the other room) instead of coming from my TV. I have fiddled around with audio settings and such but just cant seem to make it work.

I have sound when the Link starts up but once I get into big picture the sound only comes from the PC.

Help please.

This is beyond frustrating.

Just to make sure, you have sound on the Steam Link menu, but not when streaming? When this happens, if you look at your sound control panel on the computer, is Virtual Cable the default audio device? If not, can you try switching to that before starting streaming and see if that makes a difference?

If you're not able to get it to work so you're happy, please do return it.

Didn't work for me tried everything here as well as additional stuff. No dice. Actually the sound now mutes when I start streaming yet ironically the sound is fine while steam link is not streaming so it's not getting the sound data??

Might be windows 10 or antivirus related issue? Nothing should have changed other than steam updates, windows updates or steam link corruption which I've had in the past with the bluetooth feature had to format steam back to stock to fix which I think I will try now. Maybe nvidia updates?

Can you opt into the beta Steam client and then try installing VB-CABLE on your computer?

Okay so I came at this with a fresh mind and what fixed it was prior to streaming right click sound, Open windows volume mixer, make sure System Sounds and Steam are not muted or turned down really low. This fixed it for me a little embarassing because the sound worked on my computer I was assuming having these two low or muted wouldn't cause problems pretty sure that was the cure but I also did the following.

Steam - Settings - In home streaming - Advanced client options - Speaker config set to stereo or proper setting, Enable hardware decoding set to OFF, clicked ok.

if you have a Asus Xonar DGX in your comp - this worked for me. http://maxedtech.com/asus-xonar-unified-drivers/ I was having the same problem.

What is the proper way to configure this setup?

I have the Logitech g933 wireless USB headset set as my default playback/recording device.

Win 10 x64.

Steam link connected via cat6 / 1 Gbps to router.

HDMI connection to TV.

Video and inputs are streamed beautifully to the TV without any lag. My first problem was it muted my headset when I started steam link. I did research and found If I change the volume on my headset it un-mutes the system sound and I can use my headset and mic while using steam Link, talk on discord, etc. Awesome!

Now I'm trying to get the opposite to work. I need sound to come from my TV but it will just not work. A few times I'm pretty sure I've heard it quietly even with the TV volume maxed.

Before I connect to the PC I have set the steam link to stereo, and I hear the ambient steam link sound.

I have set the In Home streaming options to stereo

Broadcasting is disabled

In the volume mixer, when the link first connects. There is ambient audio from big picture mode but nearly nothing when a game is launched. I unmute steam, unmute rocket leauge(in this example) and max the volume on my TV to 100 and I get some volume, but still low.

Sample rate on the headset is set to 16 bit 48000 hz

Allow other applications to take control of device is checked

The logitech speaker configuration only has 7.1 as an option to chose from.

In the logitech control panel the surround sound option is disabled.

Guys what on earth am I missing? Setting TV volume and system volume to 100% to get only low sound is not a solution and is asking for an ear accident.

The fix for me was to go into steam link Settings, Audio, and switch from USB to HDMI. Also, it is normal for Steam Link to mute the host PC sound after connecting.

I fixed my problem. The *game audio* was playing through the *desktop speakers*, but the *Big Picture interface/ambient sounds* were coming through the *TV*. I had to restart my game, which I had played and was still running on the PC when I started the Steam Link session. After that, it was fine. (HDMI & wired Ethernet connections) I assume the game had it stuck in PC audio mode. Restarting the Steam Link connection and forcing HDMI on the Steam Link had no effect.

I just had a similar issue with a wireless keyboard and mouse I'm using. If you go to Settings>Audio change Device from Automatic to HDMI. That's what worked for me.

Well what a farce this is. No idea how this option changed (it was working fine for ages) but its not exactly a visible option. This solved my issue with game sounds now being redirected to my other TV and my PC muted through the steam link app side loaded onto a firestick

What fixed it for me:

-Disconnect headset
-Restart the link
-It worked!
++SOLVED++

Got the same problem here.
I use an USB Interface and Voicemeeter and Steam Link doesn't like it.
So, I deinstalled all Steam related Sound Drivers (Sound Settings - More Sound settings - Playback//Recording)
Right-click it, preference, preference(again), "Change Settings" for admin, driver - Deinstall driver.

After that, I reset my Steam Link to factory settings.

Reconfigured, connected to steam, badabing, badaboom - Sound in my living room. (rhyme not intended..)
