Force controller support on non-Steam games with Xbox 360 controller
I must say that, except that one point I am about to share, I love my Steam Link.

The only thing that would make it the center of my home theater experience, would be to be able to force the input method of non-steam games to an xinput device. To make myself clear, I'll give an example.

I add program A to my Steam library so I can launch it with the Steam Link. Program A supports a controller. But the Steam Link makes it so my xbox controller acts as a mouse and keyboard, because it doesn't seem to recognize that program A supports the controller. So, if we could have a launch option to force non-Steam games (and, why not, Steam games) not to switch to mouse/keyboard input, that would be perfect.

Thank you

This happens to me all the time.

Are the SteamLink devs still working on this?

I agree. Just having an option to make the gamepad an X-input device all the time instead of whenever the link feels like it would make this product so much better.

The controllers are only put into mouse emulation mode if the game is not responding to our XInput emulation. Do you have specific games that are having these problems when you add them as a non-steam game and then launch them from Steam?

I am also having this EXACT issue. It seems as though others talked about the steam controller working fine when adding non-steam games. However, I run into the problem that the input is considered a mouse vs a gamepad on games.

The current game that I'm having an issue with is the WItcher 3 which is only on my GOG library.

I am also having this issue with the Witcher 3 on Origin added as a non-steam game. When trying to use an XBox 360 wireless controller, the game only recognizes it as an emulated mouse/keyboard. Being able to play this game with the 360 controller is a big deal to me. Workarounds of fixes would be appreciated!

Hello all,

I also had the same issue with SteamLink + Xbox Controller + Non-Steam game (FIFA17).
I solved the problem by using VirtualHere

Beside the extra cost :( it works on wired controller only.

  1. Buy, Install, Start VirtualHere on your computer using Steam
  2. Plug your Xbox controller on the SteamLink
  3. In SteamLink settings, go to VirtualHere section then enable the feature on your controller port
  4. Start the streaming (you should heard a sound, like when Windows installs a new device)
  5. Launch a non steam game... it should recognize your Xbox controller instead of Keyboard/Mouse

Hope it helps.

Note : for FIFA17 I had to set " AUTO_LAUNCH = 1" config.ini file to skip the launcher

Jon, this is a known issue with Kodi (there are recent threads discussing workarounds).

One thing that worked for me was to make sure 'allow input from other devices' or something like that, is tricked in the system menu (think it may be in the services) section.
Also using Kore remote on my phone/tablet is a nice way to operate kodi.
