Steam Link

Any Fix for UPlay games working with controllers properly?
I know this is a very old issue and probably discussed a thousand times, but is there a fix for getting UPlay games to work properly through the Steam Link?
I gave up a year or two ago, but recently thought I'd try Uplay games again - Far Cry 4 and The Division for example, but now I can get the games to launch (I think the big turning point was running UPlay and Steam as administrator) but the controller is missing the move functions!
I can navigate menus, but once I'm in the game I can look around, fire weapons, change weapons, access maps etc, but there's no forwards, backwards, left or right controls. I tried manually mapping WASD to the stick but still nothing.

Any ideas? compared to nothing loading I feel I'm quite close, but without movement it's still useless!

Thanks for the responses. They are Uplay games. Adding them to steam isn't a problem, like I say, they launch fine, and I can even navigate the menus and get into a game. The problem is the uplay games all have the same issue - most controls work, I can look around, fire weapons etc, but the moment controls don't react. The (left) joy pad works fine to navigate the menus but is completely unresponsive in game itself.
I've tried using the steam controller and an Xbox controller. Both act the same.
I realised that it doesn't matter what I map them too, I tried mapping a completely different type button to be forward (keyboard 'W') and it still did its default thing. So basically uplay games ignore the controller setup files.

I'm not sure VirtualHere is going to help, as xbox controllers, and even now old xbox 360 steering wheel work great on the link with steam games. But uplay games will not control properly. So it's not a matter of controllers not being supported. Or is it?
If you tell me VirtualHere worked to solve the uplay games control problem then I'll buy it!
I may test controls through the Link with AC Brotherhood (Steam UPlay hybrid version) if I get the time (no guarantees), but have you tried using the Gamepad template for the Steam controller and mapping the controls inside the game with the help of a keyboard and mouse (not to map to keyboard/mouse, just to help with selecting things since I've noticed with AC2 that until gamepad/controller controls/profiles are enabled, they don't have any input).

Thanks Xenophobe, I checked, and 'Guide Button focusses Steam is the only one ticked.

Do you mean if I add a link just to Uplay, then navigate to the game through that? I've not tried that. I did play an Origin game earlier and it worked fine with the steam link directly. I'll Add Uplay itself and see if games work better instead of launching them from Steam directly.

<Kl0n[d1k]E> I did think I should figure out how to map the controls from inside the game. I'll look into it again

Thanks for the help, I'll hopefully get it working soon! Gaming from the link is my only real chance to play nowadays, when the family are asleep my PC isn't in the best spot, whereas the convenience of the SL is awesome! Not having Far Cry 4 is really infuriating, especially when I can see it working but can't move!

Well I added Uplay as a link itself, but it didn't magically make my controllers work. In Far Cry 4 I tried changing the controller profile from XBox to PS4 and also Auto, but they all act the same.
Still no movement in game, though I can look around, fire weapons etc

Thanks so much for all of your help. I'm afraid I've tried everything and for some reason can't get it working.

1. I do launch the game from its own steam link. The shortcut looks like this:
Target: "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\Uplay.exe" "uplay://launch/420/0"
Start In; "C:\Program Files (x86)\Ubisoft\Ubisoft Game Launcher\"
Launch options: -nolauncher
Let me know if you do anything differently.

Both Steam and Uplay are set to run as administrators.

2. I've just ticked xbox configuration support. Up until now, 'Guide Button Focusses Steam' was the only option ticked. I'll try and launch the game again later and see if it makes a difference. Though I do normally use a steam controller, I've been trying both.

3. I've tried several controller settings in steam. They seemed to make no difference. I even set some of the right hand buttons to be movement buttons but in the game it was clear any steam setting for controls were being ignored as they were all doing the same functions as before, with no movement in-game still.

4. The PC itself has no controllers plugged in. I do have a pen tablet, I've just unplugged that in case it would be doing anything weird. The only other input devices are my bluetooth keyboard and mouse.

5. UPlay in game overlay is definitely disabled too.

I'll give it one last try with the controller configuration support enabled. In case it makes a difference, otherwise I guess I'll give up streaming these UPlay titles.

I'm amazingly grateful for the efforts you've gone to to try and help me!

Actually... I just noticed UPlay overlay is back on again! Have turned it off. (Sure I did that before!)
Does it always remind you when the game starts or can you remove that dialog?
Do you leave UPlay offline or online?

Well I tried it again and nothing has changed. Still ignores any steam control settings. Thanks for your help anyway!

Ah, now we're getting somewhere! I've never seen an exe file for any uplay games! Looking at any desktop shortcuts that were made they always have that /720/0 link that looks so weird!

Ah, now we're getting somewhere! Any YouTube videos I saw about adding non-steam games always have that /720/0 link that looks so weird!
Added the division and it works!
Added far cry 4 and it says steam overlay disabled. That's weird. But it's a start!
To add to the confusion I have two installations of FC4, one bought through uplay and another through steam. I've no idea where the exe for the second one is so I can try that! Both instances have different types save games, and it's the one without the exe that I'd like to get working!!

actually, just add Uplay as a non steam game but still launch using the game's non steam shortcut, for some reason having Uplay in steam makes it work (maybe it sees it as part of steam). also be sure to disable Uplay's in game overlay as the link uses steam's in game overlay for controllers. one other thing I also have is my steam account linked in Uplay's settings, may make a difference too.
This worked for me. Many thanks.

the shortcut looks wrong to me ... it's launching Uplay then the game via Uplay. in Steam's small or large mode, go to Games on the top bar and select Add a Non-Steam Game to My Library, then find the FarCry4.exe (if it's not already in the list, browse to the game's 'bin' folder to find FarCry4.exe) and add that. then try launching the game using that Steam shortcut, after creating a Steam Controller config under Manage Shortcut (uncheck the xbox controller support if using SC).

I don't have Steam or Uplay set to administrator mode, but my windows login is already an admin login session.

the Uplay overlay nag screen always pops up, no way to stop it that I've been able to find ... yet.

I leave Uplay in online mode.

Thanks. Needed this to play Assassins Creed Odyssey via my steam link downstairs. Given you an award.

Thank you. :Cerberus814:
