Steam Link

PS3 controller not connecting wirelessly
This is supposed to be supported in build 554. When i got my Steam Link the build was 566. I have now tried this with public/beta build 566, build 554 and the new beta build 572. I run the latest Steam client and have tried both the public and the beta program version.

The result is always the same:

I plug the PS3 controller into a USB port in the Steam Link and press the PS button. The controller immediately works fine. I unplug it, and then press the PS button again for wireless pairing. The PS3 controller then shows up in the Bluetooth list as "connected". (Sometimes it says "PlaysStation3 Controller", at other times i get the mac address. It also states that it is a "keyboard".) The controller itself is totally unresponsive, while all four 1-2-3-4-LEDs flash rapidly.

What can I do here to make this work?

That is curious. Can you share the link on how to identify the counterfeits?

There are for instance quite a few YouTube clips where people point these small things out on PS3 controllers with different colors. Most notably one could check for the quality and alignment of the sticker on the back of the controller, the alignment of the symbols on the buttons and the trimming of the rubbery surface of the analogue sticks. These details tend to be not perfect on the fake ones. There is also the case of a small, rectangular indentation around the four small LED:s. There is supposedly no such indentation on a genuine Sony controller.

Thanks, that was helpful. We were able to track down a controller like this, and are investigating.

First, thanks for taking the steps to resolving this issue. I bought one on Amazon.ca (from their warehouse, not third-party) and experienced the same problem.
Do you have any update on the issue?
More information, if it helps: Wired works flawlessly but Bluetooth fails. Before switching from public to beta, it was recognized as keyboard and wouldn't do a thing, but on beta it doesn't appear in Bluetooth panel. As other pointed out, all four leds keeps flashing. Model no is Cechzc2u. Its an Dualshoch III. If you need any other information, such as VIP PID Mac address Chipset Markings or whatever, don't hesitate to ask.

I own a genuine PS3 controller and a couple of chinese knockoffs. They all work in wired mode but only genuine one works wirelessly. Any chance Steam Link can be updated to support these knockoffs in wireless mode? I'll provide device VID/PID if necessary.

Can you please update me? I have the same controller and is experiencing the exact same issue as the poster above(Shows as PLAYSTATION 3 controller, sometimes MAC address, works wired on steamlink, works wirelessly on a PS3, but not steamlink)

I just bought this one online just to play on steamlink, only to find out that it doesn't work :( I hope you can help me

EDIT: just an update, locally here we call these Controllers 'Class A' meaning they are not genuine, but made it look like one and works like one (it just happens that steamlink doesn't work)

I could provide pics and any other data if needed (although it's kinda weird because on the videos you linked, mine looked like a Real one, maybe they saw the videos already or something and tried harder to replicate it, but I know for sure that this is class A because of the small price I bought it)

MODEL NO. CECHZC2UA1

I am having the same issue. I bought these ps3 controllers because the site said that ps3 controllers are compatible. This is very annoying.

Any updates on this? have you guys made it work? any patches from the devs?

I switched mine temporarily with a friend's a few months ago. his controller worked on my steamlink and mine worked on his ps.

however he wanted to switch it back again so I will be stuck with my controller soon, I don't have a PS3 to use it with, only steamlink. I hope it will finally work when I get it back :(

Is this still being investigated? These fake controllers do work with the PS3 and also with some Bluetooth receivers for PC. It would be great if Steam Link could recognize them too!

Hi, just bought one of this controllers because my genuine ps3 controller doesnt' work anymore.

It works great with the ps3 so fat, even with the Steam Link when wired... Any news in the development of the driver for this specific controller?
Nanotechnician 5 DIC 2017 a las 2:29
any progress in this topic slouken? Using these wired they work perfect, still showing message as incompatible and stuck with "keyboard" in bluetooth Link config menu.

I just got my Steamlink and it doesn't work wirelessly with Shanwan PS3 controllers :(
They work fine on my PC.

You could add the following patches
https://github.com/OpenELEC/OpenELEC.tv/tree/openelec-7.0/packages/network/bluez/patches

Or use this fork of BlueZ https://github.com/luetzel/bluez

I hope this gets implemented in the next beta. I'm available to test this :)
