Steam Link

Steam Link setup without internet connectivity possible?
I hust recieved my stem link in the mail and set it up.
Unfortunately my ISP is having some problems right now so I am without internet for some days while the techs are fixing the problem.
When trying to play a game via the steam link, I can see my PC (and my laptop) to stream from, and when chosing either of those (each of them running the steam client, albeit in offline mode) I am asked to enter a four digit code, that displays on the machine that is running the steam client.
Upon entering that code the link tells me that the other device (PC or laptop respectively) is offline (because the steam client is running in offline mode, because of a missing internet connection) and thus I cannot stream from it.

Is there a way to set up the steam link without having any internet connectivity, or do i have to wait until my ISP has fixed their problems and I can once again connect to the internet?

Maybe a connection is only required to set things up, so don't you have a mobile phone (with Internet access) that you can hook up to your PC (tethering mode) to fix the issue?
Once the streaming is enabled with code verification, maybe you can continue using Steam in offline mode. Anyhow, don't quote me on that, it's just a guess.. Wait for someone else to reply if not sure.

Steam being in offline mode shouldn't stop In-Home Streaming from working. What might be causing problems is if your Steam client is fully updated, but the shipped firmware on the Link is too old to connect to the most recent version of Steam.

Try updating the firmware, there are directions for doing it offline here.

ok that was my guess as well, that my steam client and the firmware are not compatible and thus soe updating is needed. I'll try updating my steam link's firmware via USB drive or somesuch.
Thank you.

Oh, I'd also generally recommend using the beta builds instead of public builds, they tend to get updated more frequently and actually add important/useful features well before they go into the public build (Xbox One S controller native support and the audio desync issue were notable examples). At the moment their both the same though (build 566).

You do need Steam to be online when pairing the Steam Link for the first time.

May is to late, but for someone that has the same problem maybe this can help:
Try to connect your PC with tethering by avoiding Steam running in offline mode, when Steam is online you can try to disconnect tethering and reconnect the PC to your router (DO NOT CLOSE STEAM BETWEEN THEESE STEPS: IT WILL START AGAIN IN OFFLINE MODE) and see if Steam link recognize your PC.
I dont own a Steam link but i suppose this can work... Let me know if it works, I'm interested on Steam link but my connection is VERY slow so i could have the same problem

Ok it works with the steambeta client, but the beta has other problems, so I guess it will work again after the next patch or patches.

Yes. Streaming on your local network does not use the internet.

Thats still problem in 2024, i using steamlink to connect to my laptop from meta headset, but, i live rn in not my apartments, and, router here can't handle streaming, all internet just falls when i trying. But when i trying to connect through my router (that not have internet connection, just lan network with laptop and headset), i can choose my laptop in steamlink, but when i connect, it says that my pc is not responding, please restart steamvr.
