Steam Link
Test Steam streaming on Samsung TV!
Samsung is adding Steam Link functionality directly to their latest line of Smart TVs.
If you are in the United States and have a 2016 or 2017 Samsung UHD TV, we'd like to invite you to help test the Steam Link App, now available as a free beta from the Samsung Smart Hub.

The App uses the same streaming technology as Valve's Steam Link, allowing users to play their favorite games, and even spectate VR games on the HTC Vive, wherever they watch TV.

During the beta, playback of 1080p video at 60 FPS and support for the Steam Controller are included. For worldwide release later this summer, support for streaming 4K resolutions and additional controllers will be added.

Note: Streaming to the TV requires a Steam Controller and a high-quality network, at least 5GHz. A wired network is strongly recommended.

Please let us know how this is working for you and post feedback and questions on the Steam Link discussion forum:

This ♥♥♥♥ is so dope. Thank you. **** the police!

Oh yeah everyone having "issues," probably dont have their router configured properly because they lack the basic ability to research the setup. But they have no issues decorating their profiles, whining and dining. GG

Slouken,

While I certainly appreciate your teams efforts, let me tell you this: All smart TVs are "badword".
I and many others have zero interest in using any feature of any TV execpt for it beeing a big screen. No WiFi, no Bluetooth, no DLNA, no apps no NSA recording every conversation in my livingroom (thats not a joke, sadly). So even if my Sony TV had a Steam Link app, I would still deny to use it or even to activate the WiFi for the TV.

While I can see usecases where someone would want to use only the TV with no other attached devices, for me and many others TVs should be just big screens. Games, movies, music, apps, optical and streaming media, thats what external boxes (that can be upgraded and switched easily) are for.

So, what would it take me to bribe you into developing a Steam Link UWP app for the XBOX One family?

I use an XBOX as my one and only mediacenter device and it works great for me, living in germany where I can even replace cable TV with an app (Zattoo). Games however, is something that I personally can see no point buying and playing within the XBOX ecosystem. I tried a few: Diablo III which has a diffrent control mechanic on XBOX (boring), Star Wars Battlefront which isn't availiable on Steam (slow as hell), Gears of War 3 (i can't, for the life of me, figure out how someone can enjoy shooters without a mouse) and NHL Hockey (finally: the one game to rule the box, this one is actually a perfect fit for the XBOX).

So if Valve could bring peoples steam libraries to XBOX via an UWP app (Microsoft would earn themselves a viable "badword"storm if they would block such an app...) you could shake things up quite a bit there for the console market.

I would really apreciate your feedback on this one! :)

Regards,
Toby

I'd really appreciate someone from Value supporting this thing and chiming in instead of having a bunch of users supporting the app for them.
Any possibility to get the app in 2015 Samsung tvs?
Using a KS8000, app works really well on a 5GHz Wi-Fi connection but when I switch the connection over to ethernet, the app says that my computer is offline and refuses to connect until I switch back to Wi-Fi. Other than that, props to Valve on this app! Steam Controller works perfectly with this and all the games I've tried have ran the same as they do on the computer itself.
I'm using a DS4 connected by USB. The Steam app asks me if I'm still there in the middle of a gameplay session. After trying to select the option to continue playing, the DS4 no longer responds. I have to quit the Steam app. I don't know if there's an option on the client or host to turn off prompts for inactivity.
I'll give it a shot when Xbox One controller support is added, for now my actually Steam Link will do.

Is your ethernet has identical network environment with wi-fi; do they share network condition with same router? If so, it could be an issue with the LAN/ethernet itself.
This is awesome. I can even use my Xbox 1 controller. Now I can sell my Nvidia Shield TV.

Doesn't appear that my TV recognizes any hosts running Steam, even though my SteamLink box can connect no problem to my PC. PC, TV, and SteamLink are all wired and on the same LAN.
This is the issue I have too. Everything works up to the screen where I am supposed to add a PC running Steam. It shows my desktop, but I cannot select it no matter what.
Tried rebooting, resetting "in home streaming", disable win 10 firewall, all with no luck.

Which firmware version is your TV on? I'm having troubled with my KS8000.

This is great! I would be more than happy to test this on my Samsung UE55KS7000 here in the UK if you could make the app available for us also please. I was seriously considering replacing my steam link with a Nvidia Shield for 4k, but this looks a much better solution if you support 4k with Xbox One controllers!

Where do I actually get the app? I can't find it anywhere on the Smart Hub. I have 2016 6500 and 7000 models.
