Can you install it and see if that works? You can switch your audio output back to your normal output device after installing the driver.
I installed the app but it doesn't change anything. Because I think I should have sound at least on main menu too. So not just for streaming but I don't have any sound totally. If you can watch my video, maybe it will help you to see problem exactly. I'm going to try on another TV to see is problem related to my TV in a few hours, I will report you asap after trying. Thank you so much again.
But I was talking with steam support about it and I have an update but it is pretty weird :))
---------------
I tried changing Auto to "Stereo" on video too, so nothing were changing. But there is a something else...
I had a chance to try steam link on a different TV. Luckily I get sound on main menu. So I thought "OK, problem is related to my TV, my HDMI entry is broken/messed up then".
BUT funny thing is, when I connect my PC directly to my TV with the SAME HDMI CABLE, I get sound from my PC. I can play or watch anything I want with sound. Honestly, I never see such a thing my entire life :D
And I'm not sure this is how related to my PC. Because problem should be either with my TV or Steam Link.
Maybe I can wrap this up by writing something like this.
I tried all of them using SAME HDMI CABLE (which provided by Steam Link);
My TV > HDMI > Steam Link = No sound on Main Menu
My TV > HDMI > My PC = There is a sound from my PC
Other TV > HDMI > Steam Link = There is a sound on Main Menu
My best guess is, steam link uses different HDMI version from my TV, so my TV can't get the sound from my Steam Link. But my PC (GTX 1080) has backward compatibility with older HDMI version, so it is working. Or I'm just making up from my mind :D I don't know, I never saw such a thing :)))
My question is;
Is it something related to software, so I can just wait for a new update to fix problem,
OR
Is it something related to hardware, so I have to buy another TV to solve problem.
---------------
I'm pretty sure it is not common problem, I guess I'll ended up buying another TV which is very expensive in our country (3rd World Problems).
But I have an idea, which might be pretty stupid but it could actually work for until I bought another TV. :) I'm thinking maybe I can just buy some affordable USB speaker and connect it directly to Steam Link via USB. If it works, I can just keep up with it...
I don't know if i can help you, but I have the same worries with my sound (with same setup)
I don't know how the Xbox controllers work, but I have the same problem (well I think).
In fact as soon as I chose my computer I didnt have any sound. In fact sound is directly on my PS4 controller. (For the moment I dont found the solution to this worry (if it is the same).)
Do you try with keybord and mouse ?
I tried the VB cables and every troubleshooting until I eventually reached out to steam support.
They went thru their trouble shooting steps with me again until I told them there was no sound im the menu.
They recommended a replacement unit as it seemed to not be operating correctly.
I got my replacement yesterday and it has in menu sound and music now. Streaming works with sound as well.
Recommend getting replacement thru retailer or try reaching out to steam support.
Sorry for slight butchered english. Autocorrect makes it hard to type on mobile
And I tried to connect it with my Mouse and Keyboad, doesn't seem to change anything. Still no sound from steam link.
<3
And as far as I understood, Steam Link didnt support any speakers or anything.... right?
Thats what support told me before when they had me test my TV. They asked if I had any speakers or soundbar or anything else that may be hooked up to the TV.
Or am I misunderstanding?
About the speaker, I think normal speakers won't work since there is no audio jack on Steam link but maybe casual USB speaker might do the trick.
If I can find a speaker with USB, Bluetooth support and power with an adapter (for high volume), I will let you know guys...
Even if it doesn't work, I thought I can use it with my phone in the house :D
I tried to find a speaker which has USB and Bluetooth support but either it is too expensive like a sound bar or just it is just a cheap speaker without power feed. So if you have a money to spend for a sound bar, maybe you should spend it on a TV
Anyways,
So one of the solutions is using a ps4 controller with a USB cable and connect your headphone to the ps4 controller. Change the settings to external and there you go. Sometimes it is not working so plug out and plug in or restarting steam link might solve the issue. So step by step;
Connect the PS4 controller in Steam Link via USB cable > Plug a headphone to the PS4 Controller > Change audio settings in Steam Link to "External / USB" > If doesn't work plug out - plug in USB cable or restart Steam Link (Trying to connect it via Bluetooth doesn't give sound)
PS: For XBOX Controller users; I have a wireless 360 controller for pc, I bought a 2.5 mm to 3.5mm jack entry converter to try it on 360 controller. Still, can't manage to solve it. I guess 360 controllers don't support game sound. I think it is just for voice chat.
So, for another solution; this one I haven't tested it yet but in a few days, I will give another update. This one seems to be more efficient than buying another controller and trying to listen through the controller. It is USB sound cards. Yes, my cousin gave me the idea about USB sound cards. So I investigate sound cards a little bit there are lots of lots of cheap ones one the market and people complain about the buzzing sound, cheap sound and about not working.
So I tried to find a Price/Performance product on Turkey, best on I could find was UGREEN USB Card https://www.ugreen.com/product/UGREEN_USB_Stereo_Audio_Adapter-en.html
Lots of people also recommend Sabrent USB Card but I couldn't find it in Turkey and I didn't want to wait for 3-4 weeks.
My plan is connecting my headphones or speaker to directly to the Steam Link via USB. This means I can use headphones on my PC and Speakers on TV or vice versa.
If you guys can find another solution let me know maybe we can find an another solution.
