We actually have the information on pulling the gyro calibration from the controller memory, no Nintendo license signature required.

Pro Controller is nice, but you losing analog triggers. If you have one, use it, but if you thinking of buying traditional controller to use with Steam, you better off with DualShock 4 (or “elite” variants): everything that XInput gamepad needs, plus gyro and touchpad.

Adding support for Joy-Cons, on the other hand, would be awesome. Especially if you can use them both as one gamepad, with two gyro and 4 additional buttons (SL and SR).
