Steam Controller

8bitdo USB adapter 2 won't work in Switch mode
X-input, D-input and the other modes work just fine, but I cannot get the Switch mode (in which the adapter simulates a Switch Pro controller) to work, at all...

It disconnects and reconnects to Steam multiple times a second and I've tried everything I could think of but no dice.

Anybody has had this issue? It used to work just fine and I can't find ANYBODY having a similar headache.

Yeah, seeing the same behaviour. I got the v2 a month or so ago, and it's not functioned from the time I've owned it. I had a v1 that had worked but broke it a good while back - perhaps it wouldn't be functioning in the current situation.
I had been thinking it was a v1 versus v2 thing (one of the firmware updates breaking compatibility etc) but now seeing that your v2 used to work, perhaps a Steam thing.

Steam is unable to interface with it and switch it's operating mode / activate it or something (don't have the knowledge beyond what I'm seeing) but I found DS4Windows can. Once connected to DS4Windows (quit DS4W after that), it gets put in a state in which Steam is then able to interface with it & things are fine.

I can try that, you mean to connect the Dualsense to the adapter, the adapter to the PC and then open up DS4W before closing it again?

Yeah. DS4W and requirements all set up (https://ds4-windows.com/drivers/ ), controller/adapter connected, running in Switch mode, start DS4W, wait till it connects with the controller, then quit DS4W (it'll warn about disconnecting controllers, just choose OK, or choose Stop and then quit DS4W). It's not a strict order though.

If you want to see what I was describing, when the controller is connected and running as a Pro controller, open joy.cpl (windows key + R. type joy.cpl, press Enter), select the controller then Properties. Compare that with what you see in the test screen after DS4W connects to it.
