Can't type anything properly with Steam Link on Nvidia Shield with Nvidia shield steam controller.

Recently I've been having some issues with the virtual keyboard through Steam Link.
Whenever I load into No Man's Sky (haven't tested other games) on Steam Link and try to name/rename anything from the controller, it used to bring up a usable virtual keyboard. Strangely, within the last week it has changed to a non-working, unusable virtual keyboard.

Now, whenever I try to name/rename something the keyboard has a voice icon above that never used to be there, and when I start typing letters, they don't actually type in-game, instead they start appearing above in a word search on the virtual keyboard. If I type normal and don't select words from the autocomplete search bar above, nothing gets typed and the name/rename is blank. If I try selecting the word for autocomplete, it fills it in, then deletes most of the word. When I try to use the voice button to say it, it does the same thing. For example, I try to type or say "Earth Base", no letters appear where it's supposed to type, instead the words appear in the search bar above, I select them, and it types "EARBA".

The ONLY way I can type anything through this virtual keyboard is to type a letter, then select it from the search result, one letter at a time. Furthermore, once it opens this virtual keyboard, it now breaks the Steam Overlay button functionality and I have to close and reload Steam Link in order to get back into the Steam Overlay menu. Also, I can no longer switch between apps on the Shield, as once Steam Link has been minimized, the screen turns black and I have to close and reload the app. This also started being an issue around the same time. I am currently using Desktop mode, as I've had problems with Big Picture mode from the very beginning. I've looked through all the Steam client and Steam link options, as well as Shield options. I googled this endlessly and haven't found a solution. I cannot figure out where this broken keyboard came from and why I can't get it to type properly.
