Switch Pro Controller Not Detected By Steam
I'm trying to use my Switch Pro Controller with Steam, but it won't detect. Windows itself seems to detect it just fine - when I plug it in it makes the normal sound it should, and it shows up as "Pro Controller" under devices. (I am using Windows 10.) I'm using the wired connection because my computer doesn't have Bluetooth. I don't have any software downloaded off the internet for the controller. When I go into Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller Settings, it just says "No Controllers Detected". When I use it with a game, the game does not detect it. Only Windows itself is detecting it. I'm not sure what other information I should present, so please ask if you need to.

EDIT: It's been years since I posted this, yet I still get notifications for it. For the record, my computer/OS/what-have-you just doesn't properly register a wired connection from the controller (see my first reply at the beginning of the thread), so I have to use Bluetooth, which is still fine. I did recently get a dedicated controller for my PC though to avoid wireless input lag. So I don't have a controller problem, but you can still keep leaving advice for other people (though nothing has ever worked for me in regards to fixing the wired connection, it's something wrong with my PC).
So this is what it feels like to have your post come up in Google search results...

I'm experiencing this problem too for about 3 months, still no answer from anyone, I'll post it here if I find one tho. Just letting you know you're not alone.

Forgot about this post. I was in contact with tech support, and it turns out that there's something in my computer that blocks Steam from being able to reach it through the device manager. The solution was to connect the controller through Bluetooth, since it doesn't go through the device manager. (Apparently,
my computer DOES have Bluetooth and I just didn't realize.) Bluetooth works for me, maybe it'll work for you too.

I was just about to type you the solution I found myself. Haha, I'll leave this here for anyone else who stumbles over this post. Cheers tho mate!

"I'm not saying this is a solution to all controllers not connecting but a while back my nintendo switch pro controller wasn't being detected.

Here's what I did
1. Unpaired the controller via bluetooth then paired it again
2. Opened steam big picture and went to controller settings
3. As usual the "No controllers detected" message showed up but when I hovered my mouse over the bottom of the screen it said "Unhide devices" so I clicked that and presto, everything is back to the way it worked before.

(Note: I also updated my pro controller via nintendo switch in the settings and you may or may not need to do this or re-pair via bluetooth your controller, this is just EXACTLY what I did.)"

I really need help here. Where exactly did you hover your mouse over? I cant find the unhide controller thingy you were talking about.

Steam > Settings > Controller > General Controller settings > If it says No controllers detected hover you mouse in the center and somewhere near the bottom of the screen should say unhide devices. I don't see this option myself anymore so I don't know if its still gonna be there for you. But it was near the back button on the bottom of that settings screen. Hope you figure it out man.

I can't find it, there is nothing :(

You have to hover your mouse cursor over it in the center of the bottom of the window. then you will eventually see the "Unhide devices" message, just click on that.

To anyone struggling, this is the best solution and so far has been the only one to work on me (sorry for clouding up your inbox).

Help i dont have the unhide devices option what do i do D:
Doctor Draco Feb 16, 2021 @ 3:53pm
You gotta hover your mouse over it for it to show. It won't display it otherwise. Should be somewhere near the middle of the bottom of the screen.
