Steam Controller

[FIXED] Help! Steam thinks my PS4 controller is 2 controllers at the same time
Hey everyone, I just updated steam and turned on big picture mode with my PS4 controller connected. It then ran me through the first time setup for some strange reason, and now steam thinks my ps4 controller is 2 different controllers. Every button press registers as 2 presses.

Under my controller settings, it has the ps4 controller registered twice.

I've looked everywhere and I can't find any useful information about how to deregister duplicate controllers.

This is completely insane. Is there any way to remove one of these configurations, or am I just stuck with a completely useless ps4 controller now?

Is there an extraneous windows driver which is causing extra inputs? Try deleting the device from the windows device manager.

The problem is, it thinks the controller is a duplicate when I connect it via the Steam Link. If I connect directly to the PC it reads just one controller. Steam link thinks it's 2 different controllers apparently.

Same problem here. Latest update must've done something. Yesterday no issues. Today I turn on steam link and it's detecting two DS4s from the same controller thus creating double inputs. There's no way to remove detected controllers from a steam profile so there's nothing that can be done.

If you aren't in the Steam client beta, try going there, if you are there, try switching to stable. Not a guaranteed fix, but the beta might not have the same bug, or vice versa.

Same problem for me with steam link and a ps4 controller. The steam beta update don't resolve this issue for me. I wait for a fix.

Thanks for the report. We were able to reproduce the same issue in our testing environment and let the development team know based on your report.

If the fix is shipped to the Steam Client Beta, I'll let you guys know.

Wow, that was fast. Thanks for taking a look at it.
It seems to me if there was just some way to de-register controllers, that would help out A LOT. I know I've seen some other similar posts where people just want to de-register a controller for one reason or the other, and it's really really difficult if not impossible to do.

It seems that the problem is not fixed yet. There are 3 open discussion (maybe more) at the moment and all of us are having the same issue about the DS4 duplicated... Really sad just at the first day of my holidays.

What's sad is this was found in the beta client weeks ago. People have been opting out of the beta client because of it. This is more a process fail because the release shouldn't have been promoted with a known bug this big.
Same problem... Does steam have any update or time-line for correction?

today i started to play overcooked with my girlfriend and we both said "his is weird to control to characters at the same time" haha.
I also now I hjave boyh of the controllers associated with my account with 2 different names each. Every time I log in there is an overlay that shows that 2 controllers get connected per physical controller. Also if I try to disconnect the controller using the link in big picture, it dows not work.
A Valve employee has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
