Maybe I'm confusing something here, which is likely but I want to make sure I'm understanding you-- does this mean that because I can get the controller to work at all, the controller is considered supported? Is that what ya'll mean by "it works?" Not being sarcastic.
Or should the menus have some place to select this particular controller model and button layout?
Right now there are approximately ~3k users with that device vs 12M people with stock DS4's. For niche devices like that I will get one in-hand and test if it works out of the box after adding the VID/PID to the device list. Sometime's there's an easy workaround for issues (ex: Razer Panthera would freeze anytime a rumble command was sent) but many times it's not possible (ex: the many knock off dualshock controllers that have trackpads but show up as Xbox controllers on PC and don't have a generic HID driver).
It's a little weird to configure since it has this "Function" button that is basically a key modifier that doesn't seem to have a keyboard counterpart (I tried using the Fn button on my real keyboard but it wouldn't register-- maybe there's another way to specify that key but I don't know).
I was able to use the TAC config software to set the controller to operate in kb/mouse mode and take the in-game actual keyboard controls as a base to map my controller to, which then I took that layout and reproduced it on the steam controller configuration menus. It was sort of really weird to do that way and it took me a while, but I understand a lot more of the tons of options you can choose for the steam controller.
The level of customization and detail was overwhelming at first, but I can more or less reliably simulate the controller, its buttons and their functions through the steam configuration menus by having Steam treat it as a PS4 DSII controller. It's just not optimal and I was hoping for a more user-friendly way at some point... but with ~3k users, I can't say I expect too much because I'm sure even less than that still use it due to the complexity of setup.
Anyways, if you would like any additional information that may be of use to you, you know how to reach me... Thanks for all of your info, I really do appreciate you taking the time to write me.
Edit: glaring grammar issues
If I were to get ahold of the original FW, would the controller work better to be recognized as its own type in the steam cfg menus? I.e., would it have its own representation like how an xbox or ps4 controller has their own layouts and such reflected in the cfg menus?
Lastly, I can downgrade the controller FW. Maybe that will solve the issue because out of the box, I had to update the FW initially. Do you know what FW version ya'll had when you first added the controller PID/VID to the supported controller list?
Is the firmware on this page not working cause every time I click on the firmware I want to use absolutely nothing happens?
