DS4 controller on steam suffers from gyro drifting, and there is no calibration option
ISSUE
Calibration does not exist for DS4 gyro drifting issue

OS
Windows 10 64bit

STEAM VERSION
1513870789

STEAM API
v017

CONTROLLER TYPES:
DS4

CONNECTION TYPE:
Wired and Wireless

GAME:
Any

CONFIG LINK:
-

STEPS
1. Set Gyro to Mouse "Always on"
2. Put the DS4 controller on a static surface
3. mouse pointer drifts downwards and a bit to the left

RESULTS
- Mouse pointer keep moving/drifting and is NOT stabilized. small drift, but still difficult to use the controller this way.

EXPECTED
- Mouse pointer is static when the controller is sitting on a static surface

ps. i copied and mildly changed the text from a previous bug report. i mentioned it so you wont confuse this thread with the old from the other user. thank you

Having the same problem, down to the direction of the drift.
The gyro works perfectly with DS4Windows so this must be a Steam issue.

same problem here, and this doesn't happen with DS4Windows

Have you tried calibrating the deadzone of the DS4 controller in the Controller Settings?

It's in Settings > Controller Settings > Calibrate

The calibration option only affects the deadzone of the analog sticks, not the gyro.
The gyro is supposed to have an automatic calibration feature but it just doesn't work right.

Indeed, the calibration menu only offers analog stick deadzones. I was under the impression that the option to calibrate the DS4 gyro existed (judging by the older posts I saw when looking this problem up) but was removed at some point.

Thanks for taking the time to provide a thorough report.
We were able to reproduce the same issue in our testing environment and let the development team know.
If the fix is shipped to the Steam Client Beta, I'll let you know.

thanks. for your information the problem still exists.

This should be fixed in the latest beta. It enables gyro calibration and drift correction for all DS4 controllers.

Thank you. Seems to be working as expected. I tested for a couple of minutes and couldn't reproduce the drifting, even before using the gyro calibration feature.

I've been using the same ds4 for almost a year. -It's the newer model with the little light in the front. About 2-3 months ago my controller started having the drifting issue. I've tried re-calibrating, nothings works. I'm currently on steam beta, july 13th build, but I tried downgrading to the regular steam version and it still didn't work. @octane

How did you fix it?
Leoni Jul 15, 2018 @ 8:47am
you just need to go to controler settings and calibrate the gyro

ps. you have to do it EVERY TIME you log in to steam.

after that it works fine until you exit steam.

I'm not having to calibrate it every time. Sometimes it drifts slightly and stops almost immediately, as if it's detecting the drift and calibrating itself.

Awkwardpartyhard, have you tested if it drifts with DS4Windows? Maybe your controller is faulty.
A Valve employee has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
