Steam Controller

Steam Controller

Why wouldn't I just get an xbox controller and a PC input for it?
Or gamecube..or ps2...

Why would I buy this for $50 when I can get a controller and input device for it for much less?

Heck, I've already got a logitech and lenovo htpc remote.

And you can get the same set of features as a Steam Controller for "much less"?

I didn't think so.

Almost everyone except for a few have any slight idea what the controller is about or it's goal. You guys hear new controller from valve and it's like this: "What? Valve is making a new controller and not MS or PS aawww it's gonna suck!" Yet you cry about how bad analog sticks are at precision control for games? "I tried a track pad controller 10 years ago and it was horrible this will be too". I'm gonna laugh my ass off if this controller turns out to be the new standard and you morons are standing around with your thumbs up your asses wondering what happened. "I can't believe this controller works how is it possible?" Is what you'll be thinking when you find out you were wrong with a stupid look on your face of confusion. Use your heads they're used more for than just eating, look it up this IS the information age yet you choose to remain ignorant and cry like toddlers. Try it first or research it, not listen to blind hate on theses forums. Keep this in mind no one here has actually used one so they can not tell you how well it does or does not function. Plain and simple. Neither can I for that matter. Yet I remain optimistic and hope this will change how we game. I've researched it and come to the conclusion from first hand accounts that this will replace my current controller. However I can not know UNTIL I've tried it and therefore will not judge it just yet, I suggest you guys do the same.

I cuncur.... Therefore I shall buy .....
Actually I already have the xbox ones...
looking to upgrade...

You don't even need an adapter for Xbox or Xbox1 controllers. They work out of the box, they are the official controller for the PC platform, and many games support it (buttons on screen in tutorials and everything) - Someone needs to tell valve this, so they don't embarrass themselves with this POS ugly piece of junk.

Are you talking about the wired ones?

Have you actually looked at the US "retail price" of Xbox controllers?

Xbox 360 Wired Controller: $40

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller: $50

Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows (including their proprietary wireless dongle): $60

Xbox One Controller + Cable for Windows (only wired for PC): $60

In what way are these prices "much less"? Having a wireless 360 controller that you can use on a PC can potentially cost you more. An Xbox One controller will not only cost more, but also not work wirelessly on a PC. Sure, you may find these being sold for lower prices at various retailers, but it won't take long for the same to be true for Valve's controller as well. And of course, these controllers aren't even directly comparable in a lot of ways, since they lack the primary features of Valve's new controller.

You can add another 10 dollars onto all of those Microsoft prices, because they were all 10 dollars more when they were released, making the wireless controller for Windows 70 DOLLARS at release, if you didn't already have a dongle.

I just hope there is no autodetect or if there is the input functions can be edited in a way that would supercede game based action mapping. I almost always use xpadder to custom bind my controller and am too often dismayed upon loading up a new game to find that it doesn't care what I'd like my key bindings to be.
Eh, that's my biggest issue with some games. Many times I don't like the layout or bad aiming settings in certain games and use emulators to get better controls.
The newer ones that force gamepad support rustle my jimmies something fierce.

Actually thats my biggest issue with Xpadder.... The profile issues from game to game.... This is one area that I hope is addressed with the Valve implementation.............

You can just load a different profile when switching games. Xpadder even has a recently used list.

I highly doubt the Steam controller will support set selection, vastly decreasing the button customization compared to emulators. Unless of course it has an XInput mode or the emulators update to support it.

If ALL of your favorite PC games are made for joystick or d+pad, you should probably use an xbox controller on PC, or an arcade stick, depending on the genre.

If you have some games that are made for mouse + keyboard, but you'd like to be among the first to try a sofa experience with them, you now have a good option.
tomk1 2015 年 4 月 1 日 下午 9:19
I plan on using both controllers.
My beloved xbox controller 3yrs of gaming will not be retired, many games wont require trackpad.
The Steam contoller for all other games that require mouse as hate keyboard/mouse gaming.
Infact I hope you can use both at the same time.

Neither this nor the 360 controller have a dpad.

Your choice.... you don't buy, and I will... as I said.... I look for impovement, and you obviously don't.... And as tomk1, I will keep my xbox controllers as well, although they may get somewhat retired if this proves vastly superior....
Cup half full or half empty..... all in the perspective...

This will be excellent for people who have problems and disabilities with joints in there hands etc and games like shadow of chernobyl and newer games like the forest (if controller support doesnt get added ) will be more easier to play for people with disabilities , great idea imo

What? you absolutely DO need adapters and drivers.
The wireless xbox 360 controller needs a wireless dongle, which it doesn't come with.
The xbox one controller does not work wirelessly with PC, and you need to use a micro usb cable to play on PC with it (practically an adapter).

Just the same as this controller connecting via micro usb and bluetooth, every single wireless controller needs some sort of way to connect to the PC, don't be ridiculous.
MyuFoxy 2015 年 4 月 17 日 下午 7:15
Didn't Microsoft stop providing the PC adapter for the 360 controller? Pretty sure Microsoft has not provided an update for those drivers in ages. It is basically a dead product and if there is a bug or compatibility issue with the drivers when Windows 10 comes out. Well it may not be addressed.

Steam controller will support the steam OS and I'm sure support the next batch of OS when thoses come out.

So from a technincal stance the steam contoller is better because it will have development to correct issues with contoller interface with games ect.

However truth is, it is just like picking between iPhone or Nexus phone. They are both good, which design do YOU like more.
