Why would it need to be? It's a controller, I don't know how necessary the extra bandwidth would be. If it is necessary, feel free to correct me.

USB is backward compatible (and sometimes forward compatible to a point). You can use USB 1/2 devices in USB 3.0 ports.

As for the controller itself, yeah there's no reason for it to be USB 3.

That sounds like an issue with the peripheral/drivers rather than a USB 2/3 interface issue. You haven't stated which methods you tried, so forgive me if you've already tried this one.

You actually want to avoid using wireless devices on USB 3.0 ports if at all possible.

Thanks for that link. I don't currently use any wireless stuff on my PC but that's some helpful information.
Looks like I won't want to have anything connected to USB 3.0 at all, as long as wireless stuff is being used. Jeez.
That technology isn't as great as I thought it was when I bought into it :\

USB 3.0 is fine for high bandwidth applications like external hard drives or high-speed internet, but for playing games with a controller, even USB 1.0 is more than fast enough.

I know this thread is old, but still relevant. I personally believe the issues with USB3 / 3.1 are less about which it is, but which is native to the board. Example, most boards are native USB2, with USB3 capability, so the USB3 relies on 3rd party drivers (which are sometimes bad, and sometimes missing (generic used)). In my experience, the USB3 (non-native) works for a while with glitches here and there. New boards with native USB 3/3.1 may work differently. Maybe they are just as reliable as USB2, but I don't have one yet, so others might want to chime in. If your using a Steam controller, I'd use a native port. I recently had trouble with USB 3 using a St. Controller.
