Why is everyone so upset? He is left-handed, he has difficulties playing games with controllers. It's not his fault. If valve added a simple option in their games to switch controls this issue would be solved easily.

This isn't a question of remapping (which the controller will have in abundance), it's a question of releasing a controller with the analogue stick and face buttons switched over. I can see the point, but I don't know how many people would need it. Sure, a significant number of people are left-handed, but many of them learn the "right-handed" method of control. Again, I don't know numbers. I would be happy for a left-handed controller to be produced, by I don't know what the market it for it would be.

Agreed, so I'm trying only to pay more attention to left-handed people in terms of weighing up the necessity. It's fine and dandy Northpaws (?) saying it's a good suggestion, but so far we have several Southpaws saying it is unnecessary. I'm all for it, in principle, but I don't how much it would cost Valve as a company to do, or for what return. Considering how much the trackpads are meant to replace the analogue sticks/face buttons (with ideas floating around of the latter being included to "ease people in"), I don't know whether getting right/left handed models makes any difference, since it appears straight forward to customise the controls from the interface, although the "D-pad" may confuse things marginally.

To reiterate, I don't know.

Even though left handed people are a minority, I agree that the current design of the controller was a step backwards from the previous, even though it still needed improving.

The previous design was ambidextrous, and I wish they kept that particular feature of the controller. Too many device designers do not think about this problem, and I feel that they should, regardless of the issue of minority or not. It's principle.

You can remap any control, for any PC game, ever, with the steam in-game overlay.
It's a major and main feature of the steam controller.
The problem is that the physical controls are suited for right handed players.

Would you buy a mirrored controller if it was more expensive than the normal one? I'm guessing there's very little people interested in one. Two lefties I know both use their tech like a right-handed person since there's usually no choice anyway. I get where you're coming from, though. It's sometimes painful to watch them play on the 3DS with a stylus in the wrong hand. I can't do a timed match-3 game with left myself

this is so true, i dont get the need for left handed controlls, its not like your left hand will have faster reaction time than your right hand, its just the all hand precise controlls that get harder, but that would only be a problem using your entire hand, and not just your thum.

trying a modded touhcpad myself i use mouse/controller right handed though im left handed. using the track pad is so differnt that either thumb didnt make a differnce, used both for thumb sticks so using a thumb for movement was normal but the touchpad macanics are differnt so your aiming could be no differnt its just the movement may take a week to get used to. if worse comes to worse.

Well it looks like I'm in a very minor minority, but I was also disappointed when they changed the steam controller's design. I use the mouse in my left hand, and so does everyone in my family. It is a massive challenge for me to use my right hand to do anything precise, like aiming or even clicking on something in a point and click game.

Controllers have never bothered me much on consoles, mostly because I only play fighting, racing or non-competitive games... but when I played Red Dead Redemption and GTA online with free aim I was absolutely hopeless.

The whole point of the steam controller, I thought, was so that you could bring any game, even RTS games, to your living room. Well that's probably not going to work if I have to use my left (precise) thumb on the movement stick and use the trackpad with my right thumb.

So yeah, it's not going to make a big difference to Valve's bottom line, but it makes a difference to me and so I won't be buying it.

I'm sure you can customize the controller for left handed support sense the track pads aren't limited to being on one side like the joystick or the buttons. Personally I hope I don't have to use the joystick in my games, you can also set the joystick to be like buttons depending which direction you push it in so your not limited in using the xyab buttons

I know plenty of left-handed people. Not once have I seen one ♥♥♥♥♥ that the controllers for consoles are hard to use.
