Steam Controller

Steam Controller

weight of steam controller?
How much does it weigh? One of the things I like about the 360 controller is that it has some heft to it. If a controller is too light it's more fatiguing, you need to actively grip it in place. A controller with nice weight rests in your hands and doesn't jump around when you use inputs.

some say it weight roughly the same as 360 or other controllers once you add the batteries, but would be cool if someone actually weighted the 2

Someone weighted the two and the steam controller is heavier than the xbox one by something like 40 grams but because of the weight distribution it feels larger apparently.

I weighed the SC vs the 360 and my analog scale didin't have enough resolution to detect any difference they were virtually the same. Someone weighed the SC vs the Xbone and the SC was slightly heavier. The results were in that stupid "Save your Money" thread.

Two biggest misconceptions about the Steam Controller:

1) "It feels cheap!"

It doesn't. Materials and craftsmanship are on par with any other similarly priced controller.

2) "It's too light weight!"

It's not. It weighs almost exactly the same as an Xbox 360 gamepad.

the weight is decent. neather too heavy nor too light when hold with booth hands.
because the weight is destibuted to the handles it feels a little heavier when only hold by one hand. (lever effect)
without the batteries it feels a little too light for my taste ... but it certainly won't "jump around" in your hands if you use the inputs

I thought the idea behind the weight distribution was to make it feel like a feather-weight, while the mass in the handles would smooth gyro input, kind-of like those large handles people put on cameras.

Edit:

Valve should have known that to be better than the other controllers the SC should be heavier than those other controllers. How could it be better if it's not heavier. Better things weigh more. I mean a diamond is heavier than a rock, right?

They should add a little to the weight in one of the updates.

I don't believe I've ever had a controller "jump around when I use inputs", however I believe the Steam controller has a decent weight to it, once the batteries are in it.

With the same batteries, same brand and everything. My Xbox 360 controller weighs in at 280 grams, steam controller at 290 and an older model PS3 dual shock is nearly 190 grams. I have a digital kitchen scale, came across this and decided to just go for it. My scale is not known for it's accuracy and weighing 3-4 time each it only varied by 1-2 grams either way so I figure it's pretty accurate.
16 tons and whatta ya get?

Just weighed mine with batteries in on a digital kitchen scale.
287g. (0.364lbs)

I don't own a 360 controller so I can't weigh that but.. there's the weight of the steam one at least :p

The guy is an idiot and never states what he don't like about the controller. He also does NOT mention the "heft" at all(unless I missed it). The commentors are idiots too making statements like "xbox have solved the controller problem. Anyone else is wasting their time." and "I still say the GameCube was the pinnacle of controller design." LOL ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ LOL
