3rd party Nintendo Switch Controller detected as XBox 360 Controller

Exactly what the title says. The controller I'm using is a Beboncool Nintendo Switch controller.

This is what it looks like, to help visualize the issue I'm having.

When I test the face button inputs, A and B act as I would expect with my controller: The button on the right is A, and the button on the bottom is B. However, Steam thinks the button on the left is X rather than Y, and that the button at the top is Y rather than X.

There is an option labelled "Nintendo Button Layout", which claims to swap X and Y, along with A and B. When I turn this toggle on, A and B are swapped as advertised. However, X and Y do not swap at all—in other words, this toggle actually makes every face button wrong, rather than just X and Y.

Remapping the controls does not work. Regardless of what I do, they revert to the standard layout once I've finished.

I do have a Playstation 4 controller I can switch to if this can't be fixed, but I would rather not have to do that if not necessary, as the controller I'm using is very comfortable in my hands.


EDIT: I have found a workaround—I can rebind the controller while in-game through the Controller Configuration option on the Steam overlay. From there I could swap the X and Y Buttons without them reverting back once I'd finished.
