Are you having issues with GOG DOSBox games? Just add it as a non-Steam game through the library tab on Steam's desktop client, and you should be set to configure the Steam Controller with it in BPM.

DOSBox games typically don't work with the overlay, even ones purchased through Steam, so you'll need to configure the controller outside of the game. And you may even need to configure the desktop bindings as some DOSBox games even ignore the per-game controller profiles and revert back to the desktop bindings.

You can set up multiple desktop bindings and pick whichever one you need before launching the game. Just give them a unique title before saving and you're good to go. It's a small hassle, but it's a workaround until Valve can get per-game controls working with DOSBox consistently again.

edit: ah, didn't read 8-bit Cerberus's post about the desktop bindings properly.

Actually, you can create a game specific profile.
-> In Big Picture Mode (before staring it):
-> Navigate to the game in you library
-> Manage (game/shortcut)
-> Configure Controller

But you might have to start-stop the game to test it.
And you might need to run the latest Steam Beta version (for now)

I'll use the game "Al-Quadim: The Genie's Curse" as an example.

Open your file browser and locate the directory the game's installed to.
There you'll find a shortcut named "Launch Al-Quadim" or something similiar.
Right-click the file and select Properties (bottom option).
In the properties winduw, under the Shortcut tab, there's a field marked Target. In it you'll find a long string of commands looking something like E:\Games\Al-Qadim\DOSBOX\DOSBox.exe -conf "..\dosbox_alqadim.conf" -conf "..\dosbox_alqadim_single.conf" -noconsole -c exit.
Select (CTRL+A) and copy all that text (CTRL+C).
Go to the non-steamgame shortcut in your steam library and rightc-lick the game, select properties.
Click the button Set Launch Options.
Paste in the lines (CTRL+V).

That's it. It should now work.
I described how to do this using regular steam, not BPM, but it is fully possible to do in BPM too.
Beware that many dosbox games doesn't play nice with the steam overlay, disabling all your pretty keybindings and revert to the regular old desktop configuration.
