USB receiver shows as BOOT LDR when plugged in
Whenever I plug the USB receiver, the only device that Windows sees is called BOOT LDR. I tried both with and without the range extender. I tried 2 different computers and same result. Any suggestions?

Did you eventually find out what was causing it? I'm having the same problem!

FINALLY got this working with a restore of the watchman service. Thanks to this post: https://steamcommunity.com/app/250820/discussions/3/1692659769966300598/

The regular firmware restore instructions do not work, so I will go around posting this everywhere I can to try to help others in the same situation.

To tell if your device is still electronically working. Run SteamVR and go to the settings menu, Under General -> create a system report. Under USB, if one of your USB (or both) Devices is showing as BOOT LDR then you have this issue...

Issue: During headset update something causes the system to fail and the application to close, upon a second attempt one of the (wireless receivers) or both is greyed out.

The instructions to flash the receiver is as follows (NOTE: This is different from flashing the headset, however similar)

Open a folder "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\SteamVR\tools\lighthouse"

Shift right click in the folder and open a command prompt here (Or powershell if you're on win 10)

Paste in the following command:

bin\win32\lighthouse_watchman_update.exe -d firmware\vr_controller\archive\htc_vrc_dongle_1461100729_2016_04_19.bin

This should update the watchman and re-recognize it within windows.

41D8EEE9C3-LYM - Firmware 1558748372 is at least as new as 1461100729. Skipping.

It's refusing to update because the current version is newer than this, so it automatically skips it. I don't know if there is somehow a way to force an update to an older version but if there is I think it could be somewhat helpful...
I don't know if this thread applies to Vive's Full body trackers, but one of mine isn't showing up as "Watchman dongle" but as BOOT LDR so I'm assuming this applies to full body trackers

For anyone with this issue, copy & paste this into power shell:

bin\win32\lighthouse_watchman_update.exe -e firmware\vr_controller\archive\htc_vrc_dongle_1461100729_2016_04_19.bin

typing "-e" instead of "-d" will actually force it to update using this version. If all works well you should see it rename itself as "Watchman dongle" under devices.

can you do this in 2024?
D0HERRITT Jul 10, 2024 @ 6:33pm
Yes, it should still work. I don't know why it wouldn't
