Steam Controller

How do you deregister your controller from account and remove all settings from Steam Cloud?
How do you deregister the controller from your account and remove all settings from the cloud? Valve should really work on the cloud management. It's ridiculous that user has no control over what's stored in the cloud.

The best advice I can give you and some will agree is to NEVER configure your controller through steam. Use a 3rd party program to configure it. Just let Steam handle the part where they recognize the controller so that it can be used with your steam games. Don't mess around with button configs within Steam.

PS4 controllers work without problems for me. All I did was make Steam acknowledge the controller. Maybe even give it a name and change the light bar color and brightness. This probably made some sort of profile, without me knowing, but hopefully not.

I don't have experience with XBOX controllers but I would also suggest the same method.

Please don't take my advice as gospel because even I am in the dark with the rest of the people here.

Yeah, we all learn the hard way. The poster before you, seemed to find a nifty work-around the problem. Perhaps it will help you. If it does, make sure to come back here and confirm it. Though of course all our solutions are in some form a work-around....sadly.

A few people swear by the Steam Controller, but I feel those were the ones who spent days configuring their controllers to work properly. I wouldn't mind spending a couple of hours, but if I can't configure simple controls in a day, there is something wrong with it.

Very quickly after release they were putting it up for sale, as if trying to get rid of them. As low as $5. I wanted to get another one just because it's basically free. This is just a bad sign. Also that there is no word about them trying to improve the controller or their support for their own systems for handling controllers.

Thank you again.

Do you mean "FORCED OFF" in the per-game setting? I did try this many times, but nothing helps. I am using 2 xbox 360 wired controller. Since 11th Aug I mapped buttons, opt in/opt out templates and registered my controllers, both controllers only have partial rumble effect in ALL games. But this only happened within Steam games, when I play non-steam games, my controllers are back to normal right away.

Although I unchecked all box in the Big Picture Mode, but the controller feels different in games. Before 11th Aug, when i play old games like Contagion or Medal of Honor Airborne, the sensitive of the right analog stick is a bit slow, so I can't aimed very effectively. But after 11th Aug, right analog stick become sensitive and moving fast, this let me aiming more easily. Thus, I know I still under "Steam Input Support" whatever I check/uncheck those boxes in the Big Picture Mode.

3 weeks have passed. I dont think this error can be fixed. So I stop buying new games from Steam. Maybe I will create an new account or buying a new non-xbox controller to start a new config. It was sad.

I would assume so. The pathing seems to lead to where the person is indicating when I looked. The 360 wired controllers are recognized by your computer without Steam running?

I just thought of something but I have no idea if it'll work. I'm sure there is a way to start games installed on your machine without having to log into Steam. Only problem is that Steam won't track things like, achievements and other analytics. Perhaps this will bypass Steam monkeying around with your controller.

So try starting up a game that's causing you controller problems without Steam running. I haven't looked up how to do this but I'm 99% there is a way that isn't too hard to do.

Thank you for your concern.

Below is my actual case, please take a look if you have some free time.

I am not a professional IT guy. I really doubt that we can bypass Steam app and running those games alone. Every games need Steam cloud save and need to be updated from time to time. The game I remapped buttons is Brothers in Arms Road to Hill 30. Its out of my knowledge to start it up without Steam.
This has been going on this long.... this is insane. I love Steam a good majority of the time, but sometimes there are somethings that make me hate their support (lack of). All I need to do is clear the button assignments for this flight stick, and save it that way. So it will stop treating my HOTAS as an "xbox controller". I literally cannot save it with the mapping empty. "You need to map buttons A, B, X, Y and left joystick". Why? Why the hell can I not just save it with it empty and clear the ♥♥♥♥ out...? Ugh.
September 2021 and still THE SAME ISSUE. This is absurd!! Steam cloud still saves my controller settings when all i want to do is de register this controller from my account. All of the fixes in this thread have done nothing.. The SDL_Gamepad fix, The steam input per game.. Al of it still does not work.. Steam still has my controller registered.. How is this even still a problem...
I found a way to remove controller settings from the cloud. It seems you can do it from the Steam website, but not from within the Steam application. To do it, I went to https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata/SteamHardwareRegistrations At the bottom of that page you should see a list of your saved configs, with a link to each. Follow the link to the one(s) you'd like to delete and there you should see a delete button.

Were you able to confirm that it changed within the application too? Does this work for all controller types too?

Thank you for finding another solution. Hopefully people will try it and report that this is indeed how to go about doing what we have been asking for for years.

Also, does it permanently delete the configuration data for that controller if you register it again, that's the real thing people want. just de-registering the controller can be done quickly and easily and has been able to be done the whole time, it just doesn't delete the cloud data.

can confirm while it does unregister, it doesn't delete the already saved configs from the cloud sadly.

That is a shame and so far nothing has changed. While people want to de-register and eliminate the saved configs from the cloud.

Thank you very much for confirming, that Steam has continued to ignore this.
