Steam Controller

Steam Controller

Nolan Dec 7, 2015 @ 7:00pm
So Id like to put a metal analog stick in my Steam Controller but..
I cant tell from the exploded view on the sleeve if a DS4 stick or Xbox One stick would fit best. Has anyone tried this yet?

The default stick is nice, I just prefer concave to convex for my sticks.

I was thinking of going with one of these.

Any help would be appreciated.

I don't know if anyone tried to change the analog stick but I do have another suggestion, http://www.kontrolfreek.com/fps-freek-alpha.html/

The thumbstick is soldered to the motherboard.

The rocker the stick attached to is soldered on, but the stick itself just slides onto a post like the DS4 sticks. At least according to this video. (~4:50 he pulls the stick off)

The post on the DS4 was "keyed" kind of, it was round, save for one flat side, that and the height of the stick makes me wonder if it is compatible as I doubt these things are standardized.

Hell, I'd say try it! Why not? I rather like the SCs stick length compared to the return spring tightness but all it will do is void your warranty to try it. Does anyone care about warranties these days? :)

Ok then. Let us know.

I did it a couple of days ago. It came out great.

For those doing it, I had to shave off some of the base of the aluminum stick because the Steam sticks sit a milimeter or so lower that the aluminum sticks.

That looks perfect, thanks for the pics.

What kind of tool did you use to tripe the sticks? Just a file?

Wow! Nice work. That looks super fine.

OMG thank you for posting that. Did you have to drill the hole at all ,, or just shave down the cone of the thumbstick that closest to the pcb.:HangingController:

yeah the goal is to shave it down a milimeter or so I used a large drill bit. It can mar the surface on the under side but it is not visable once installed. But dry fit before driling and you might get lucky and have bought a good set of sticks. I know that manufacturing tolerances can vary quite a bit with these 3rd party products.

This is the ugly underside

So the diameter of the hole does not matter?, its just removing the excess metal around the hole? like i could just use a dremel tool,or do i really need to use a drill for that hole..??? thank you for the replay..

I didn't mess with the diameter, because the interior is keyed to fit the round on 2 edges flat on 2 edges peg of the Joystick Axis Analog Sensor Module. It is all about hight in the Z direction. My issue was the Aluminum stick sits a tiny bit higher so it was binding against the enclosure top when assembled. So after I shaved the bottom of the stick it dropped down enough to not rub. Good luck, I hope it works for all.

@CrouchingBeaverHiddenSausage
I tried a dremel but it wanted to jump around a lot so I just drilled. in fact I think most of the mar marks in the underside picture were from the dremel. But if you could figure a method it could work
