Also make sure you don't have Repeat (Turbo) turned on for the buttons in the configuration screen. That will press and release then press then release the button (forever) while you are holding down the button.
While we're here. Do we know of a way to factory reset the controller?
edit: Something else I've just noticed (that's difficult to describe): The button graphics seem to be misaligned on the configuration screen (look at the "X" graphic on this image http://i.imgur.com/oxHpxSJ.jpg).
I'm not sure at all if this is related, and it's still there after another reinstall. So does steam leave any files on one's computer even after running the uninstall? Can I hunt them down, delete them then go with a totally clean installation?
I am having the same issue. I was trying to play some Snowrunner today and I noticed it. I switched to my other controller and the same issue. I booted up Dark Souls 3 and had the same issue. I switched over to my nintendo switch pro controller and had the same issue. Something about steam's controllers seems to be broken.
