Mouse lag when streaming
Greetings,
Before using my steam controller while streaming I get no issues, no lag, no problems. Buttery smooth experience while streaming games to my laptop while using the trackpad on it. Cursor input is perfect, smooth, no issues.

When plugging in my steam controller and using that for mouse input, the game still runs buttery smooth however the cursor has a frame rate jitter that is extremely annoying. The game is running 50+ fps but cursor is getting like 1 fps, warping all around the place.

If I exit streaming the cursor performance on the controller returns to normal.

My first thought was to switch the controller to the Host computer. I do that and the cursor is still jittery on client but smooth on host (always smooth on host no matter). however again if I just use my laptop pad input its smooth.

This is really confusing to me and it seems to relate to the controller and they way it functions the cursor. Im not sure if streaming has its own forum too I can post in but I could not find it in searching titles like "In-home", "Streaming", "stream", "inhome" etc.

Anyone have the same experience?

Steam beta or stable? If ur in beta try reverting to stable and test again. If it fixes it then its a bug with beta and should probably be reported in the steam beta client forum as a bug. If not, well we will take it from there and see what we can do.

Ok, further testing is done.

I was indeed opting in for beta in both host and client. I opted out and problem persisting exactly as before. Just to simplify the problem

w/Steam Controller, Smooth Gameplay, Horrible Cursor Performance on Client, fine on Host

w/mouse(client laptop trackpad), Smooth Gameplay, Smooth Cursor Performance on Client and Host

Same results for Beta and Current release
Same results for Controller plugged into either Host and Client

What is really confusing to me and I cant grasp the concept is that streaming the mouse input from controller plugged into client shows smooth as butter on host, no problems. So its not a controller problem? But when video is sent back to client its jittery only on the cursor. However if I use my laptop trackpad its smooth on both sides which would lead me to believe its some mechanism with the CONTROLLER.

Could it be how streaming handles inputs via hardware vs controller inputs? With Steam pushing in home streaming with their steam machines you would not expect this to be an issue.

Does anyone else have this issue while streaming?

I'm getting this same problem but not even when streaming, it's all the time.

One year passed and the issue is still there. Just bought Steam Controller and I'm a bit disappointed that I can either use it or stream, not both as game is unplayable.

I'm having this issue, too. I have no idea how it's even possible, because it's the controller's fault but also not???

I have the same issue. Valve, shame on you.

BUMP. This is STILL an easily reproducible issue after over three years. The Steam Controller, or using other controllers with mouse functions mapped to sticks, is broken when streaming in-home from Windows 10 to Windows 10 - and likely other combinations.

I've posted in a couple of these threads. Someone over at Reddit was able to get in touch with Steam support in January of 2018. Steam said they can reproduce the issue... but as we can see... the problem still remains.

Wow thanks for the update. I had gave up on this long ago and just use my controller as a media controller lately. At least it does a fantastic job at that! :KSmiley:

I'm having the same issue described. Using xbox one controller.

I have the same problem as the steam controller using in mouse mode . When streaming to my Steam link. cursor stop every 5-7 sec with frame, sound on this moment not affected.

I want to add more details to this issue. There is no controller lag or any problem that i can tell if the game supports a controller natively like Hollow Knight for example But if the game has no controller support and i have to use a stick to mouse emulation, then over streaming i get the cursor stutter. It makes the game unplayable. This whole thing sucks because streaming to the couch is a huge part of how i play games. Steam devs, is there any movement on this issue?

Same issue for me too - win 10 to win 10. Whole reason i bought the controller and i paid $100 cad as it was never sold directly here. Can this issue really be 3 years old and still unsolved???
