Steam Controller

Battery life
Been using the control a fair amount since early release and % is at 15. Im a little disappointed. Hopefully a rechargeable battery will come out soon

How long is a "fair amount"? I'm around 60 hours on my dev build with the batteries that came with it, and about 10 hours on the pre-order final. Both are still going.

Just get yourself some rechargable AAs, a 4 pack with a charger would be ideal, play with 2 while a freshly recharged set waits for those two to give out. Swap, and you've got 2 fresh batteries while the previous are recharging. Repeat as necessary.

I've got my rechargables ready to go once the included batteries give out.
I got about 80ish hours so far, on my 2nd pair of batteries. I'd say the battery life is a lot better than other controllers.

xbox one has less of a battery life and uses AA's as well, and PS4 has a rechargable but a pathetic battery life. Then the pro u controller has an 80 hour rechargable, which is INSANE.
Could be that the pack of batteries you got in the box were aged a bit and had discharged themselves over time. Unless of course you checked them before you plugged them in but that seems kinda unlikely to me.
Either way, just picking up a pack of rechargeable ones should solve your issues :p
Rechargeable batteries already exist. AA Eneloop, buy it.

I've been playing 100hrs of Dark Souls with the batteries that came with the controller. I'm pretty amazed that two AAs can last that much!!
Good for you, necromancer.
Did someone say necromancer?
The #1 factor for battery life is haptic intensity/frequency, followed by LED brightness. If you're unhappy with the battery life I'd turn down the LED, turn off experimental rumble if enabled, and turn down haptics intensity in general.
Whoops super old thread
LOL, but all of that is good advice. The LED makes virtually no difference because it's such a low powered thing anyways but yeah, I have seen up to a halving of my 100ish hours of battery life when I play games with rumble on and the game uses it regularly.
*huffing and puffing like an angry anti-SC troll* If you got rid of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ track pad and put a proper 2nd analogue stick you wouldn't have this problem with the batteries. MEEEEHHHHHH!!!!
Is this a necromancer forum? For I, too, am a necromancer. I am here to revive my dying batteries for my steam controller far beyond their natural lifespan, forcing them into eternal servitude to power my controller in perpetuity. This ingenious method shall save me small amounts of battery money for all time! Is anyone here familiar with the dark rites by which I might accomplish this nefarious goal?
just replace them. you can open the lid. no tools needed. standard aa batteries.

Thanks for the extra posts, awesome to hear that the batteries really last that long! :smilememes: Seems like I will be better off with standard batteries, since I don't use the controller every day.

And not many people are willing to observe battery life for a few months and come back to report, so obviously there are huge delays in useful responses.
