Steam Controller

Steam Controller

Raxeuz 2015 年 10 月 25 日 下午 12:56
I don't want Skyrim to think that I'm playing on an Xbox controller! HELP!
Skyrim has a way of translating the steam controller into what it thinks it to be as an Xbox or generic controller. What I want mostly is to be able to use a keyboard and mouse configuration, which also seems to force the steam controller to only respond as a generic/Xbox pc controller. One of the features I prefer is to be able to move the camera with mouse movement input, otherwise it only responds to the haptic pad as a joystick that snaps to center. I hate that.

Maybe there is a solution in Skyrim's ini files? Any hotfix solution will do, thanks if you can figure this one out!

Current working hotfix ( http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/30913/? )

The issue I have is that in WASD I lose the full analog movement... I know it's a tad nit picky but in reality using analog is MUCH better than wasd. I have done almost 6 hours of research and googling and trying things but keyboard is relatively easy u just can't enable the mouse... Oblivion DOES have joystick and the KB/M work at the same time always. It is the perfect game to use the steam controller with. The problem with using a 360 or ps3/4 controller with oblivion was always the incredibly crappy dead zone issues. I'm sure if you have ever used a 360 controller ever you know exactly what i mean. Since Oblivion doesn't have its own true deadzones even with configs you would have to have used Xpadder, losing analog movement and having super crappy right stick as mouse and that is just unacceptable to me. I guess for now I COULD just use my 360 controller for skyrim but jesus, I love the SC so much I just think I wont play skyrim for a while till a proper fix either from the modding comminity or from Valve is made.

Sheesh, those elder scrolls have always been a thorn in my side from day one with regards to controls. I just get a bit carried away. :batsilo:

Guess I was wrong about oblivion and controllers. But analog movement is definitely is better, but I generally don't care. In bethesda games I certainly miss stick movement, but only because of those times you have to follow npcs. Having that stop and go movement is annoying, they're generally faster than your walk and slower than your 'run'.

Heh, my thoughts exactly. I guess I AM a picky ♥♥♥♥♥. :) I am OK with that though. It's people like me who will complain till they fix it right? (Not likely because of me) :steamsalty:

I'm just here to keep this thread alive, if a capable modder or developer comes up with a solution then this controller will be the best way to play Skyrim outside of a kb/mouse.

For now, use WASD and set Overlap Directions to "Analog Emulation". It causes hilarious character animation jitter in some games, but it's a workable stand-in where analog is desired but not available.

Although, after playing Sir, You Are Being Hunted for a couple days, I have to say I'm very attached to the haptic feedback from basic d-pad mode. What you lose in fidelity you get back in unambiguity, and paired with gyro aim I find myself preferring the more responsive feel.

I don't know if this helps maybe this has been tried and it doesn't work well (I don't own Skyrim so I can't check), but it appears Shift enables walk mode. So if you bind a Direction Pad to the stick, turn Overlap Directions to Analog Emulation, switch to advanced tab, set Outer Binding: shift, enable Outer Binding Invert and adjust the range accordingly it might create a pretty close approximation to analog movement. I did something similar in Half-Life.

Steam allows each game to have its own configuration for the steam controller.
Select (or launch) Skyrim from the menu. Select Manage Game from the steam overlay, then choose Configure Controller->Browse Configs. You can then load any of the presets or one uploaded by the community; I used Grim's Settings as a start.
Once you're in-game (Skyrim) make sure the 360 controller is disable in the Skyrim settings (the descriptions for the configurations will say the same).

I get it, and I'd take the wasd movement over a joystick look option any day. I just wish I could have my cake and eat it too in this case. I'd still like to see a mod of some sort that allows dual gamepad/mouselook use.

I was going to mention that i took Grim's settings and added motion controls. With motion controls I was able to dampen the vertical axis motion on the trackpad (so you're not looking up/down so easily) and left the verical look to the gyro (motion controls). Basically made skyrim play more like Splatoon and it works great. I can upload that if there is interest.

Well, in reality you make something u think might be cool just upload it... HIGHLY recommend labeling the buttons though. We all know what does what but its so much more professional looking and make a decent description. I played around with all of that but I just got grumpy myself. I must just be a grumpy type guy. :)

This was posted on reddit, not sure if it is related to this but hey, here you go anyways.

There are several good mods for the 360 controller-nothing specifically for the Steam Controller yet-but it is still early :)

So I downloaded this and somehow its working as intended! Good job!
SleepyFox 2015 年 10 月 27 日 下午 9:00
I don't understand the problem... just disable 360 Controller in Gameplay Settings and the SC should work as intended, this is mentioned in the descriptions of most Skyrim SC configs. Or is it you want to use analog movement on the SC as well as mouse input for the camera?
maxRunner 2015 年 10 月 27 日 下午 9:34
They are saying that gamepad controls have better movement but the kb/m layout has better aim. So they want to map analog stick to gamepad movement and right trackpad to mouse. If they disable gamepad they can't use analog movement and if they enable gamepad the game forces the mouse off. This is purely because of how the game was developed, it has nothing to do with the controller or its configuration.
cammelspit 2015 年 10 月 27 日 下午 9:40
And there in lies the problem... It's a bethesda game. There is no ENGINE reason to have it that way besides the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ was they set up the controls. If we had joystick trackball velocity emulation it would serve to solve the issue for that and a choice few other games I have played that have a similar problem. BUT Skyrim is so damn moddable someone could do it, especially the script extender guys.

To regain a bit of analog control over movement when using a WASD configuration, use Outer Ring Binding in the analog sticks advanced settings. By default in Skyrim, the character always runs and there's a mod key set to walk. So set the Outer Ring Binding to this walk key, then invert it. Push the stick a little and the character will walk, push it all the way and they run.

That's honestly how a few games handle the analog input. I noticed in Witcher 3 there is no scaling to the variation of the input, it's just walk/run stretched out over the analog input.
