Squeaky button
Anyone else finding the ABXY buttons getting squeaky?

The manufacturer disagrees with you. One of its functions is lubrication.
its more of a solvent in its formulation. This is why its a bad idea for anything plastic. Why do you think you cant use WD-40 on sensors in your car. Ruins the electronics and plastics they rely on. WD-40 contain naphtha and many other oils and such. Good for squeaky door hinges, NOT for squeaky buttons made out of plastic.

It has both solvent (that evaporates quickly) and a lubricant in its formulation. It is safe on most plastics and rubber (I think polycarbonate is the only exception). I would not use the standard WD-40 on electronics as the mix is probably conductive.

So, what's your suggestion?

Isopropyl Alcohol is the usual recommended cleaner for electronics. It is safe on plastics.

WD-40 works great in distributor caps on older cars, keeps the moisture out and helps prevent misfiring. Pop the cap off and coat the inside liberally, shake out any excess and pop it back on. I used to do it regularly.

Using it on electronics would probably NOT be a good idea. Again with the isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol) and a lint-free cloth or Q-Tips. Don't use compressed air to clean out electronics either...it just jams the shmutz in tighter (use a battery powered PC vac).

OK on the caps ur right there. Map sensors and such not a good idea cuz the solvent has no place to evaporate to.

As far as what I would do? If it stopped dont do anything, it was still prolly a molding runner and it just wore off. If it was something in there then cleaning is the best idea. The controller isnt hard to open if you have a simple T6 on hand if at some point you have to do a teardown cleaning. I have had to do teardown cleanings on every controller O have owned since my Atari back when I was 2-3 so its super common. Either way prevention is the best bet so wash ur hands before use and try not to spill juice in it. (My son did this to my 360 controller 3 times!)

I've always used a bit of veggy oil.

impurities, cant guarantee its fee of conductivity. Maybe a tiny little dab of 100% mineral oil, but that ♥♥♥♥ is a solvent too. Thats why in mineral oil PCs it will literally eat away at the heat sink compound. Not worried about the electronics but the membranes for the buttons. You know, lets just not put any kind of foreign lube inside our controllers. Who wants a slick controller anyways?
