Switch the D-Pad and Thumb Stick
Seriously, that's all. I like it, but this is my biggest complaint (and to be honest, it's a big screw up in my eyes). You use the joystick way more often that the D-Pad, and it feels out of place because you have to reach across the entire grip to press it.

This simple change should have been easy to see, and I think the only reason they are located where they are is because it looks nicer being symmetrical. IMO, ergonomics should trump symmetry/looks, especially in a game pad. There is no excuse for this error.

Honestly, that's a matter of opinion. Someone who plays platformers would use their dpad much more than they use the analog stick. Plus, that's not a dpad, but a second trackpad, it can be, and is, used for much more than just movement.

I just set the left trackpad to joystick and it worked very well.

Valve designed the controller for the left pad to function as an analog stick and so much more. The original designs didn't even have the analog stick.
