How do we make our own Template?
Of course I know how to map controls on a per-game basis. However what I'm trying to do is make a "general FPS" mapping so that any FPS game I load I have my own custom basic layout that just needs fine adjustment per game. They have 3 default Templates to use but I'd like to save my own... Anyone know how?

Edit the existing templates with a text editor. i.e. navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\controller_base\templates in File Explorer and open gamepad_fps.vdf in notepad

Ugh is that seriously the only way... Well guess it will have to do for now, hopefully they put out a software patch to fix that.

I've just discovered I can do this! This is SO useful. I have loads of games that I need to set up with identical configs, so this is a life saver.

I wonder why Valve haven't added it to the UI yet? Seems odd.

I was wondering the same thing, I have a feeling it's just those little oversights adding up. When you remember that Playstation has re-designed theirs 4 times now and Xbox 3... Take into account Nitendo has been doing handheld for a long time as well as consoles. Valve is a little behind but I figure they are known for their long term support for games I just hope it carries to hardware as well.

This problem as well as being unable to load 2 controller configs when doing a split-screen game are my biggest peeves with it. That and you're tied to Big Picture mode (which they made ubundantly clear before purchase) I just hope that opens up as I'd LOOOOOOVE being able to map these to control my Audio DAW or just about any other piece of software. The possibilities are there if Valve just provides the support.

To answer my own question yes you can take a controller configuration from a folder rename it and put it in the Template folder. It seems to be scripting like I use to do for the original Tribes game 15 years back :pandastunned: Never thought I would use that again :hp_kyu:

Is editing the files still the only way to create your own templates?

I'm tired of having to disable haptic feedback EVERY SINGLE TIME.

when exporting a configuration you just go down to template and save it there

Just change you INI and/or CFG files to read only. :B1:

It is also 100% built in and easy now so you don't have to do literally anything with the files...
