Windows "On-Screen Keyboard" keys not clickable with controller
After trying the steamcontroller under windows using the pad as a trackpad emulator and the triggers for LMB+RMB i thought i'd try some typing using the windows On-Screen Keyboard
(This one: http://i.imgur.com/L6L9G4R.png)
However i could highlight buttons, it did not allow me to click/select buttons with the trigger mouseclick. I had to use the mouse again for typing.

Is there a reason the steam controller cant interact with this?
Maybe because it's an windows accessibility tool? Though it would be very useful if this was enabled in a later update.

I see this too. OSK is probably doing something weird. It has special logic to not let you focus the window and probably has other logic that is tripping up Steam Controller.

It also doesn't work for UAC dialogs. So what we are seeing is probably a security mechanism to prevent apps from spoofing user input into UAC dialogs.

Steam would probably need to run elevated (or preferably to route the input stuff through SteamService) in order to fix this.

Edit: Yeah, when you run and focus an elevated app the controller stops working altogether. I think the input injection running unelevated is the problem here.

anyway for us to solve this or is this up to valve?

Just run Steam as an Administrator to get around the problem.

This is a real Problem!

The Workaround are not really usable.

Run Steam as Administrator:
Steam bugs you with 2 dialogs warning you about running as Admin.
And every time you switch back to BPM from Desktop.
The second Steam warning dialog is not clickable even running als admin!

Adding ask.exe to BPM and alt+tab between Windows is just not nice.

I never had this kind of Problem using Xpadder, Controller Companion or joy2key.

Please Valve: fix this!
Just run the emulation in Background with admin rights.

As long as this is not solved i need real keyboard and mouse sitting on my couch :(

I dont see how steam "Identifies" run as admin as a compatibility mode,
It should not complain, and just allow it like there's no problem.

The problem is, you should not be running Steam as an admin user. It is not good advice to do that. You might do so with a small system utility but certainly not a multipurpose package like Steam that launches significant sized executables itself. The correct approach is for Steam to use a separate controller utility which is certified by MS and so does not generate pop-up warnings when elevated. I assume Valve is working on this.

I don't think you can. (Hence talking about the not usable keyboard of Windows.)

Actually, you can. They added the ability to do so in an update in november.

On the desktop, you use left stick click to pull up the keyboard. If you are looking to open it in game, that's always been possible with Steam+Select.

You need steam big picture running for the desktop mode be able to use the stick click to open osk in applications not launched through steam.
Minimise Big Picture was also added about same time iirc

Oh wow. Really good to know both of those things, thanks!
