Does navigation in overlay work as expected when using trackpad as an analog stick and not a mouse?
btw steam controller does not use emulation for switching track pad functionality. This video is lengthy but it is very interesting and useful in understanding how a steam controller works. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UfN5WK7OzU8
Correction: In SteamOS, when selecting "Open in browser", the right trackpad emulates mouse as well, but not in the community browser.
I've put in a feature request/improvement for it to default to gamepad+mouse mode instead. I suggest you write to Valve using the email address PopinFRESH provided in his quote ( SteamHardwareFeedback@valvesoftware.com ) and make this feature request to Valve directly as well.
And Balderick, you need to chill, that tantrum was uncalled for.
Maybe if you started a thread explaining your request and the issues that made that request needed you could help others like Cybolic as well as giving a means to help Valve employees prioritise things!?.
I just think using the support methods indicated by Valve on their support pages is the way for everybody to go and get support.
Your emails have obviously done nothing to help this issue! What you and popinFRESH suggest is not what Valve themselves recommend.
I really do not mind being corrected or given information that helps me change my opinion.
For anybody wishing to report bugs, request new features or simply discuss Big Picture the place to go is http://steamcommunity.com/groups/bigpicture/discussions/
I know and I have no issue with this. The bug I'm describing is that the controller doesn't work in the overlay at all when it has previously been set to keyboard+mouse mode.
I have now reinstalled Ubuntu (actually Kubuntu this time, but that shouldn't make a difference) and will test later whether that helped.
Opt in to beta client and if you have already Check for steam client updates... ;)
How do adding bug reports to an open forum where they'll get buried in mounds of other unrelated questions, answers and topics ensure that Valve actually sees the bug report?
We're not saying don't report any bugs you have here, we're saying that you also need to send them to Valve directly so they are sure to see them at the official channel they have opened for direct communication.
I personally use the beta testing bug tracker that we were given access to in 2013. I put my suggestion in yesterday so no, I would not expect a response this soon. As for what Valve themselves have recommended:
They want you to send feedback directly to them through that email becuase it's a direct line to the hardware team and much easier for them to parse than trying to dig through forum posts. Sure, they may be checking forums, but that doesn't guarantee that they will see every topic and bug report someone posts.
Stop being petulant.
Edit: Nevermind! Portal 2 works in Linux using the newest Steam beta version :D
