(SOLVED) Double input issue
Hi,

When I use the Steam Controller, some games register the input (i.e. from its buttons, the little joystick etc) twice. So, for example, this means that if I am navigating a menu using the shoulder buttons or the joystick I can only move up or down or left or right two menu items at a time, skipping one. From my own investigations, I can see that the relevant game seems to recognise the Steam Controller as two controllers. For example, in a team sports game where you move an icon representing your controller left or right underneath the team icon you wish to play as, moving left or right with the Steam Controller moves both player one and two at once. This happens regardless of whether or not a second controller is actually physically plugged into my PC.

I can only replicate this issue in certain (not all) non-Steam games (e.g. FIFA 15) which I have added to Steam. I do not believe it to be a game issue, because it only affects the Steam controller. If I do have an Xbox 360 controller plugged in too (or instead), this functions normally - whilst the Steam controller registers double input.

If you Google this as I did, you will see the issue is fairly common.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

Matt

From what I understand there are known issues with FIFA 2015. Sometimes the SC software conflicts with the game software. This leads to odd bugs. Reporting them will help Valve figure out which games have conflicting code, and adjust accordingly.

Ok, thanks. I already issued a support request. Is that what you mean?

You said you think this is a known issue, I'd be interested in reading something from Valve about this if you have a link or something? I checked the 'known issues' pinned post, but didn't see anything.

I just replicated this issue in Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light. When the Steam Controller was set to the Joypad template, essentially emulating an XBOX controller, the game thought there were TWO controllers attached. Player one and player two. Navigating menus was hard because you can only move two menu items at a time, etc. Disabling one of the controllers within the game had no effect - it just pops right back in there. The double input/controller bug went away when I set the Steam Controller to mouse/keyboard template.

I got this issue in Citizens of Earth. I guess I need to figure out which controls work for keyboard and mouse for that game. :/

Strangely, whilst I had been assuming this was a steam controller issue, my 360 controller just exhibited the same issue in FIFA 15, appearing as and moving two controllers at once. Exactly the same as the Steam Controller.

I was using Big Picture mode and the Steam Link though. I don't get the double input if I run the game without Steam!

Looks like the new Beta update has fixed this. Yeay! Thanks Valve.

I'll have to retry Citizens of Earth then.

It sould work. I just the update notes and it says 'fixes double input issue in games like FIFA'. So the update specifically fixes the issue, which is great that they recognised it and took action.

Yeah, but it's always good to check and make sure. ;)
what button to dab? Mar 12, 2016 @ 12:33pm
This issue is happening right now in Duck Game. It detects the controller both as an xbox360 cintroller and as a game pad. My steam controller is controlling both P1 and P2. I've tried remapping the controls both through the game and big picture mode, but nothing helps.

I see the problem is marked as solved, I have the same issue, can I know what's the solution?

For me, it was fixed in a steam beta update!

This doesn't always work but you might redo your Steam Controller bindings. Not the whole thing but the buttons that don't work/ Sometimes they get broken over a game's life cycle.

I had this problem with Dying Light 1, had to turn off steam controller Input per game.
